Emmett can't stop smelling of Gemma's perfume while they wait for Edward to arrive with Bella. Bella learned about the family and Edward is bringing her over to meet everyone. Esme and Carlisle are following Gemma's instructions on how to cook the best Italian dish while Rosalie reluctantly makes a salad. Jasper and Alice are out of the house and Chamberlin is helping Carlisle at the stove.
Esme inhales deeply and she smiles. "Here comes the other human!" She sings, making Gemma smile in amusement.
Edward leads Bella into the room. Carlisle has Verdi's opera blasting throughout the house. Chamberlin is helping Carlisle, Esme is now prepping a platter while Emmett backs away from Gemma and her lovely perfume.
"Bella!" Esme chirps as she walks over to her. "We're making Italiano for you."
"This is Esme," Edward claims, "my mother for all intents and purposes."
"Bon giorno?"
"Molto Bene!" Esme exclaims.
"You've given us an excuse for the first time since Gemma won't let us cook for her," Carlisle claims.
"Which will change now," Esme says and she gives Gemma a look, Gemma solutes her with a grin. Esme smiles warmly at her and she turns back toward Bella. "I hope you're hungry."
"Oh, absolutely-"
"She already ate," Edward cuts her off.
'Great going, Eddie,' Gemma thinks toward him when the glass bowl in Rosalie's hands shatters. 'Now you've upset Rosalie.'
"Perfect," Rosalie sneers as she steps over the glass.
"I just assumed - - because you don't eat, you know..."
"Of course," Esme coos. "That's very considerate of you."
"Ignore her," Edward says to Bella as Chamberlin walks up beside his mate. "I do."
"Yes, let's keep pretending this isn't dangerous for all of us," Rosalie snaps and Gemma looks at her hands, and Emmett growls lowly at Rosalie.
"I would never, ever tell anyone!" Bella gasps.
"She knows that," Carlisle claims reassuringly.
"The problem is," Chamberlin speaks up, "you two have become public now..."
"Chamberlin!" Esme gasps as she looks between him and Gemma.
"No, she should know," Rosalie says. "Gemma, too. The entire family will ne implicated if this ends badly.."
Chamberlin looks at Gemma and his dead heart breaks at the betrayal in her bright blue eyes. Jasper feels an immense amount of betrayal when he and Alice Alice. He goes straight to Gemma and he reaches his hand out.
"Come on," Jasper urges. "Let's walk."
Gemma looks at Emmett with wide eyes and he nods. Gemma slides her hand into her vampire best friend's and he leads her outside. Jasper suddenly throws Gemma on his back and he literally flies through the sky. Gemma squeals in shock, fear, and excitement all in one until Jasper lands on a tree.
"Oh, my god!" Gemma squeals. "Don't you dare drop me!"
"Never in my wildest dreams, ma'am," Jasper replies and he takes off up the tree.
"Really, Rosalie?" Emmett snaps at his coven sister.
"I didn't mean to upset her but she had to know, Emmett," Rosalie replies right back. "She needed to know the precautions if things end badly between the two of you."
"She already knows because I told her shortly after she learned about vampires," Emmett says. "And now, she's feeling really betrayed by you and Chamberlin."
Rosalie flinches when he says that. She does like Gemma. The two talked last week and Rosalie learned how much Gem valued her mortality. She wanted to stay a human for as long as she can while Bella doesn't seem to value her human life.
"I'm sorry," Rosalie whispers.
"Dont apologize to me," Emmett says. "Apologize to Gemma when she and Jasper return from his flying her through the woods."
Emmett pauses when Gemma's loud giggles fill the house and Jasper's laugh. Alice beams at her mate and Gemma's happiness. Chamberlin looks miserable. He feels terrible for upsetting his Gem, like he likes to call her.
Jasper and Gemma arrive back later, both wearing smiles and Gemma's hair is a mess. Gemma shoves Jasper and she runs into the kitchen. She halts in her step when she sees Chamberlin and Rosalie.
"Hey, what did I say?" Jasper asks her when he feels the betrayal.
"Hold my head up high," Gemma replies and she scoffs when Jasper raises an eyebrow. "And to stay happy," she mutters.
Jasper nods and Gemma can't help but smile.
"Better," Jasper replies. "She's all yours, Emmett."
"Thanks," Emmett says. "Come on. You're in serious need of a comb."
"That's Jasper's fault!" Gemma says as she goes upstairs with her vampire boyfriend.
