Beating Hearts

Melissa groaned as she grabbed her head. She looked around and noticed she was in an abandoned house, but she doesn't understand how she got there. All she remembers was leaving the masquerade ball and after that, everything turned black. Now she doesn't know what to think. "Hello?" She called out.

"Melissa?" She heard Elena making her smile.

"Thank god your okay. I thought for a moment that I was the only one here." She says. "Do you know why we're here?"

"No, but we need to find a way out."

Melissa nodded as she started looking for a way out. "I wouldn't do that." The blonde turned to see a woman with a short hair. "There's nothing for miles."

"May I ask why are we here?" Melissa asked politely.

"No."

Melissa sighed as she walked over to a bookshelf to see what books it had. She heard a smack and turned to see Elena out cold once again. Melissa looked back at the girl and kept her mouth shut.

Later that day, she kept hearing them talk about the doppelgänger and someone's brother's mate. That part confused her. Melissa walked a little ways to hear what Rose and Trevor has to say. "He wants them."

"I still don't know why he needs the blonde." Trevor said.

"I told you. She is his brother's mate." Rose tells him.

"Sylvester's?"

Rose nodded. Melissa walked away shocked by what she had just heard. She was a mate to this vampire who wants her friend dead. Walking over and sitting down as she waited for Elena to wake up.

Melissa sat quietly as she waited for answers and for someone to save them. Elena was up and asking Rose questions as Melissa had no word. "May I ask something?"

"Okay."

"What did you mean mate? And who is Sylvester?" She asked.

"Sylvester is the most loyal brother to someone who needs the sacrifice. Sylvester is known to be quiet like you, Melissa, but you carry the mate mark that has been heard throughout my life."

Melissa rolled up her sleeve to see a small mark. She looked back up and sighed. "Am I in danger?"

"No."

"Than what is this sacrifice for?"

Rose smiled as Melissa was wanting to learn more. "Follow me and I will explain." Melissa nodded as she walked away with Rose as Elena was trying to get Trevor to cooperate. A sound caught Melissa's attention and looked at Rose. "He's here."

Melissa followed Rose back into the room as Trevor was panicking. Melissa sat down and grabbed a book. "Trevor, I'm know you're scared, but know Rose will always be there."

Rose smiled at the blonde as she can see how compassionate she is. When a man in a suit walked in, Melissa never looked up. "Human? Impossible?" She heard him say. "Hello there." Elijah smiled as he looked at the blonde. "I see you found my brother's mate."

"So I've been told." Melissa said. "Can we just get going cause one, I'm tired, two, I'm hungry, and three.." she looked at herself and back to him. "I would like to have a nice hot shower."

Elijah nodded, but before the girls could do anything, Elijah swung his arm with enough strength and cut Trevor's head off causing Melissa to scream out. "Let's go."

Melissa nodded as Rose grabbed the blonde till a noise was heard. "What was that?"

"I don't know." Rose said as Elijah looked at her. "It was just us. No one knew."

Melissa watched as Elena tried to distract him knowing something was up. When a bush of wind went by her she knew. Damon and Stefan were there. Rose grabbed the blonde and went to leave with her just for Damon to stop them. "Damon." Melissa replies as she hugged him.

"Shh."

Melissa nodded and watched what they were doing.

Melissa smiled as she got out of the shower. She heard someone knocking and walked downstairs and opened it to see... "Rose?"

"Melissa, may I come in."

"Sure." She replies as Rose walked in.

"Let me finish explaining what I know." Melissa nodded and sat down. "When I first met Katerina was when I met Sylvester. Every girl wanted him, but he was never interested. When I found out about the sacrifice and why Sylvester turned everyone down."

"Because he was waiting for me." Melissa says.

"Yes." Rose replies. "He wasn't artistic like his brother, but he knew exactly what you looked like." Melissa blushed. "Melissa, he's coming for you and he won't stop at nothing till he has you."

Melissa gasped. She didn't know what to say. "Rose, I don't know what to say, but I do know that I can give you a spare room and some clothes if you need a place to stay."

"That would be nice." Rose said.

Melissa showed her the guest room and showed her where the clothes would be at. Melissa smiled as she walked up to her room before she laid down. Feeling the softness of her pillow and the warmth of her blanket, Melissa was out in no time.

"Melissa, my love, I'm coming soon and I will keep you safe."
