Today was August 20th, 1994, my first day of Sophomore year at Westside High School. I'm not sure why, but last night I couldn't sleep. I'm not nervous about the first day of school considering that I still have my best friend, Betty, who I hang out with 24/7.

I doubt that anything new is going to happen today. It'll just be a normal, boring day at school as always, with the first day of school twist.

I wake up to the annoying sound of my alarm clock at 6am

*ring ring ring*

I groan and mutter myself, "why can't school start at 12pm?!" I raise my arm and hit the snooze button on my alarm clock and close my eyes, falling asleep for another 5 minutes until I hear the annoying ring again.

*ring ring ring*

I remove my blanket from my body and finally get up, groaning in the process again. "Okay, okay! I'm up, geez."

After that lovely wake up call, I grab some clothes from my closet and place them on my bed. I take a shower and once I get out, I put on my clothes and head downstairs.

While going downstairs, I check the time to see that it was 7:00am. School starts at 7:50am, but Betty and I wanted to meet up at the front gate at around 7:30am.

It was still only a 10 minute drive from my house to school, meaning that I still had some time to eat.

Just as I finish with that thought, I see my mom setting up the table for both of us. "Smells good mom! What did you make?" I ask as I sit down. "Well since it is your first day of Sophomore year, I decided to make your favorite, my world-famous pancakes."

I hug my mom as I thank her for the amazing food choice and grab some orange juice from the fridge.

My mom and I are very close considering that it's just the two of us here. She never brings up my dad, nor do I. I can tell that my mom doesn't like talking about him and if I'm being honest, I don't either. He obviously doesn't care about me because if he did, he would be here with me. With us.

After I finished eating, I look at the clock to see that it says 7:20am, perfect.

My mom grabs her keys while I get my backpack and we both head to the car. We get in and head to Westside.

As we're on our way, I can't help but wonder if this year is going to be any different, maybe something new or exciting will happen. A new friend, new experience, new...anything.

My previous year at Westside wasn't very magical.

Betty and I were still friends (we have been since 6th grade) but I didn't join any clubs, sports, or any extra curricular activities. That was mostly because all I really wanted to do after finishing my homework was write songs.

I love to sing, write, dance, perform, pretty much everything that a artist does while they're on stage.

All of the songs I've written are just random and they aren't based on any life experiences. Though one day I hope that I'll be able to write about the one topic that I have been saving, love.
