What are we really?

David had somehow managed to arrange a 'meeting' with Vivian on Saturday; she wasn't in a good mood that Friday after her eventful meeting with David's ex.

So she had agreed to meet him at a park that wasn't too far away from his brother's house the next day.

Well that was settled, but he was having a hard time picking out the right outfit for the occasion.

He rummaged through his drawer for the third consecutive time. All the clothes he had now felt outdated to him.

This is just a 'meeting'

He kept calling it that, because he couldn't bring himself to call it a date. If he did, then nothing would have stopped him from going to the boutique nearby to get some clothes with the small savings he had racked up.
His nervous system had been in an ultra excited/ultra anxious state ever since Vivian agreed to see him today and his brother wasn't helping his matters at all.

"So it's not a date?" His elder brother asked for the umpteenth time that morning

David sighed loudly

If he didn't also taunt his brother, he would be wondering what joy he was getting by doing it.

David collapsed on the bed with a sigh.

His brother chuckled
"Seems you're quite into this one"

David replied
"You can say that"

He was tired of trying to deny the feelings he had for Vivian. It wasn't like it was a bad thing but all these happened at the wrong time.

"Bro, can I borrow one of your banana republic t-shirts and one of your suede boots?" He asked his brother.

Kelechi laughed
"Are you going to a show?"

David stared at him in mild anger
"Calm your nerves bro" Kelechi said "it's just a simple date"

"It's not a date" David countered yet again

Kel rolled his eyes

"Yeah, whatever"

Kel strolled to David's bed; and picked up a maroon colored t-shirt from it.

"Just put this one and one of your black jeans and you'll be fine"

David sighed again

It was almost 4:00 pm and David was already dressed about to head out for the park to wait for Vivian.
They had both agreed to meet there by 4:30 pm but he needed to be there early.

A gentleman's courtesy;
Well that was what Essien called it.
It wasn't close to ten minutes after he had reached the park that Vivian called that she was close by.

David rehearsed his conversation line he had prepared.

He was as nervous as shit and only God knew if he could go through this date without embarrassing himself one way or the other.

He was still engrossed deeply in rehearsal and didn't notice a figure behind him.

"What are you doing?"

David almost toppled over.

He regained his balance and turned, Vivian was staring at him with an amused look on her face.
Although he had rehearsed what to say to her over and over again, he was lost for words when facing the real thing.

She was putting on a pair of denim jeans and had a multi coloured shirt that was tied at the end in a way that revealed her belly button.
She also had a pair of sneakers on to match her outfit and a face cap for shade.
