When David got to his uncle's place, his mom launched into a sermon on his 'misdeeds' and 'misbehaviours' in school.

"I am totally disappointed in you" she said glaring at him

" Mom, who told you this?" David asked worriedly, he could not understand how his mom got wind of such information.

"It doesn't matter who told me, the fact is that is the truth" she replied, "stay away from that Vivian girl, concentrate on your studies"

"Mom!" David exclaimed feeling extremely wronged, "don't you believe me? Whoever told you this is lieing, Vivian is a good g--"

"Are you guys dating?" His mom interpolated

David was stunned for some seconds, he could not fathom who could be so cruel to disclose matters like these to his mom.

His mom took his silence as a positive admission to her question.

"From now on, distance yourself from that girl, I don't want to hear that you are still together, you are being influenced negatively by a woman and you are not aware, don't you know people are watching you, they are eyes closely monitoring you, people looking up to you and you are here busy misbehaving yourself, you have disappointed me David" she said bitterly

"Mom" David tried to counter, "Vivian is a very good girl, she even helps me with my studies--"

"Stay away from that girl and face your books do you hear?" His mom demanded, cutting him off
"Mom--"

"Do you hear?" She reiterated, this time in a tone that could brook no argument.

"Yes" David muttered

"I can't hear you?"

David stared exasperatedly at his mom,

"Yes" he growled helplessly

"Fine, I'm done with you, go and think about your life" she said dismissing him.

David grabbed his bag and found his way back to his brother's place, he was livid, why did his mom refuse to believe him, he wondered.

David met his brother at home, he was in the living room reading a magazine but his countenance was too sour to start any conversation,he just grumbled out a greeting and made for his room, but the first statement his brother made stopped him dead in his tracks.

"So Vivian is a bad influence huh?" He asked, his eyes still on the magazine he was reading.

David turned slowly to his brother,
"You are aware?" He asked in surprise.

"I was around when the complaints were being made" his brother replied, dropping the magazine he was holding on the center table.

'Complaints were being made'
David replayed the statement in his mind then it hit him.

"You know who fed mom those lies?" He asked, his face contorting in anger.

Kelechi raised an eyebrow at David's last word.

"Lies?" He emphasized

David stared at his brother and sighed bitterly,
"Don't tell me you believe it too?" He asked, his hands on his waist

Kelechi shrugged his shoulders,
"I mean... It sounded strange at first but the persons....or rather the person disclosing the information was a very reliable source so I had to believe, but now seeing your reaction, something is definitely wrong"

"Who was it?" David asked, he was very curious to find out this 'reliable source' that had tried to paint him in black.

Kelechi stared at him in silence for a while before shaking his head in what seemed to be as disbelief.

"It baffles me...." He said, suddenly sounding mysterious.

David stared confusedly at his brother, his curiosity almost killing him.

"What is baffling about the question I asked" David demanded

Kelechi did not even spare him a glance, he was busy stroking his chin as if contemplating on something.

David knew his brother was acting all mysterious on purpose and he could not bear it anymore.

"JESUS!" He exclaimed, slamming his hand on his forehead, "Kel please don't kill me with suspense"

Kelechi laughed loudly when he saw his brother's reaction.

"I was just teasing you" he said, "but seriously, this is no joking matter"

"Can you just tell me who it was?" David asked again rolling his eyes

"Even if I tell you, you might not believe it" Kelechi replied.

David recoiled in wonder as many thoughts came fleeting through his head, his mind went to the principal but that seemed a little far-fetched, Essien popped up in his mind for some reason but he quickly brushed that thought away, before he could come to any conclusion, his brother completely discombobulated him with his next words.

"It was Chidinma and Essien"
