Dusk was fast approaching, people were leaving the park, but David still had Vivian in his arms.
The question she asked had taken him by surprise, but it was not unexpected; he released her and held her by her arms.
"What do you think?" He asked her, his eyes boring into hers
"I don't know" Vivian replied looking away, her cheeks; a dull shade of magenta, "stop looking at me like that"
David smirked, "How am I looking at you?"
"Like I've got something in my eyes" Vivian replied without looking at him
David chuckled
"You've actually got something in your eyes" David said, turning her face with his middle finger to meet his, "something that keeps me entranced, something that assures me that I have a better future ahead of me"
Vivian lips slightly opened as if she was to say something but no sound came out.
And it was at this juncture, without warning, without any notice, David leaned in, taking her by surprise clamping his lips on hers.
David sucked at her lower lip for some seconds before pulling out, leaving Vivian all hot and flustered.
"What was that for?" Vivian asked, her face all flushed up
David smirked "What?"
Vivian grabbed his shirt pulling him close and kissed him back and hard, her tongue bursting through his lips, rummaging around his mouth as if in search of a gem hidden beneath its depth.
Vivian carried on with so much ferocity that when they broke they were almost out of breath.
"You are feisty one aren't you?" David chuckled as he gasped for air
"You are the one who started it" Vivian replied rolling her eyes
"We need to get going"
Vivian took out her phone to check the time and was shocked at what she saw.
"Christ! Its six forty-five, I'm supposed to be back before six thirty"
"We need to get going then"
They both got to their feet and walked out of the park, hand in hand.
"You didn't answer my question you know?" Vivian asked looking at him as they walked
David laughed, "I'll surely give an answer but it's late"
"Alright"
*********
It was a day before the exams commenced and frantic preparations were being made. The halls were swept and tidied, teachers were making final markings on the students' notes, and even the principal who rarely stays in school was available, personally supervising the cleanups. This made it close to impossible for seniors like David to abandon their duty posts.
"What's so special?" David grumbled as he was caught sneaking out of the hall for the second time "It's just exams"
"Go and tell that to your principal" Tony whined frustratingly as he barked orders to the junior students doing the clean up
"Sometimes I do pity Essien" David said
"Don't pity the lad brother" Tony replied pointing at Essien who was patrolling around the hall with the principal dishing out orders to students along the way with a look of relevance and contentment etched on his face.
"The dude loves his work"
After all the 'hysterical' preparations had died down, the exam time table was posted on the notice board for both junior and senior classes.
"Amazing" Elvis exclaimed sarcastically "our first paper happens to be Mathematics and I'm not prepared, I thought it'll be English"
No one responded to his complaints, it was a customary thing, for Elvis has never been prepared for any of his exams.
Around mid day, Essien came scampering to the class eager to find out how David's date with Vivian had gone.
"So?" He asked fervently
David, with a big smile on his face, narrated all that happened to Essien not leaving any detail behind.
"You guys kissed?" Essien asked with an astonished look on his face.
"Yeah" David replied as proudly as he could "Not a mere achievement I tell you"
"So are you guys now dating?" Essien asked with a serious tone
"Well, I haven't officially asked her out yet but that'll be very soon" David replied with a huge smile on his face
"I see"
There was a hint of sullenness about Essien's tone that caused David to look back at him.
"You okay bro?"
"I'm very well indeed, only just that my productivity this morning has so far been impeded by a slight migraine inhabiting the left side of my fore brain" Essien started rubbing his forehead, "so if you'll please excuse me, I'll need to go the health bay because I'm dire need of an aspirin" Essien explained, finally rounding up his speech and then walked away.
David stared at the back of his friend as he walked away, his mood had changed so suddenly that David couldn't sense why. Although, Essien was an emotional person, the only emotion that he could suppress was anger, which was quite odd. But given there were friends right from childhood, he could tell when Essien was angry.
He starts talking slowly, dispatching those vocabularies he has stored up his brain with a hint of a British accent added to it. These are really distinctive pointers that no other person could have so it was very easy for David to spot the mood swing. But what disturbed David was that this happened after he had told Essien about his date with Vivian.
David shook his head; no, he had to be over thinking,
I am definitely over thinking, he assured himself as he walked towards his class.
