David decided to come school the next day, he hadn’t planned to, but after much persuasion from his mom, he gave in; he didn’t put on uniforms, he came just as school was about to close for the day.

He got through the gate and headed for the principal’s office, who was eager to know how he was doing. After he was done, he walked towards the school; where he saw a group of people at the foot of the building. He couldn’t tell who they were, then he came closer, he realized who they were.

SS3, it seems they had just finished their mock exams for the day, and were chatting away. David knew almost all of them personally, but he wasn’t in the mood to exchange pleasantries with anyone.

They were on the right wing of the school and he knew they wouldn’t be able to pick up his figure from that distance. So, he sneaked through the corridor of the left wing, luckily the ground floor didn’t have any burglary proof. Just when he was about to run through the stairs, a voice called him from behind.

“David”

David knew who it was before he turned,

“Hey, Chi” he called back “What’s up?”

David sighed as he scaled down the few steps he had climbed to meet her, this one of the reasons he was trying to sneak upstairs.

“I’m good” she replied “You?”

David nodded, “good”

There was a brief silence before Chidimna broke it,

“You’ve been avoiding me” she said “Why?”

“I've had a lot of issues to deal with these past few weeks” David explained “you don’t have to put it that way”

“I heard what transpired between you and your dad”

“My step dad” David corrected her

“Sorry” she apologized, “Your step dad”

“It’s alright, I'm fine now”

Chidimna nodded her head and stared at him for a while.

David felt uneasy,

“What?”

“Dave, I've really missed you”

Oh boy, he wasn’t expecting that.
David stared at her, he had missed her too, her flawless ebony skin, her high pitched laughter, he had been crazy about her he had to admit, but she broke up with him just because she was a year older.

“I don’t think so” David said testily

“Look, Dave” she started, closing the gap between them “I know I made a big mistake, I let my friends make decisions for me, I'm so sorry, I was so stupid to let that happen.”

‘Yes you were’ David said inwardly before replying her

“I don’t really blame you for the break-up” he said

Well, that was a lie; they both knew that, he did blame her, if she had really liked him, she wouldn’t have broken up with him just because of that stupid reason. She just wanted to be in good terms with her friends and didn’t care about their relationship or his feelings.

“I'm over it now”

“Dave … I ….know I should have this sooner” she was saying without looking at him “I'm so sorry for what I put you through I behaved liked a kid and I'm so so sorry”

She was almost close to tears now, David tried to stop her, but she was on a roll and won’t be stopped.

“David please” she begged, holding his left arm “please come back to me”
