It was a Sunday evening; David was having dinner with his brother Kelechi; who was discussing the matter Uncle Sam raised about their mom filing for a divorce.

"She says, she will consider it, can you imagine?" Kelechi asked as he munched through his plate of jollof rice.

"Sometimes I fear she's under a spell"

"Don't you?" he asked David who was busy poking the piece of meat in his plate.

"Ya", he replied idly.

Kelechi stared at him for some seconds, then continued eating.

"What's on your mind Dave?" He asked

"Nothing really, just, I ...kinda had an argument with someone at school and it's been bothering me"

"Over what?" Kelechi asked as he cleared his plate

"Over ..... well, over our family and...."

"Our family?" Kel asked in surprise.

David nodded,"Ya, the person was just trying to advice me, you know, concerning my studies, not to let it affect me and I think she's right"

"She?" Kel inquired with a smirk

'Damn'

He let that slip, he knew his brother, he was going to taunt him till thy kingdom come.

"Please bro," David begged, "don't start"

His brother laughed,

"Fine"

David narrowed his eyes in suspicion,

"Just like that?" he asked

"Ya" Kel replied "Just like that, besides, I'm quite curious about the girl who's got the guts to want to advice you on your family issues."

"Well..." David started to say but was cut of mid sentence

"Is it Chidinma?" Kel asked abruptly "are you guys back together or wait let me guess..." he said cupping his chin for a while

"That deputy off yours, what's her name again?"

David sighed, "She's a new student and her name is Vivian."

He couldn't stop himself from smiling as he said her name.

"Oh! I see" Kel smirked "seems the girl is quite into you"

David smiled in spite of himself, "Well, I doubt that"

Kel sighed, "I'm surprised to hear you're doing badly in your studies."
He looked very serious now.

"Dave you shouldn't let this affect your studies"

"I know, but.., I'm just..." David's voice trailed off.

Kel stood up and walked to David's seat, his hands on David's shoulders.

"Look, I know it's quite hard for you, this whole family saga, its maddening, but channel your anger to your books"

"Yeah, I keep hearing that"

"Look, you're a brilliant lad, don't let challenges like this derail you; remember you're a man"

"Now you're talking like dad" David remarked which made Kel laughed, then all of a sudden, he sobered up.

"I miss him, you know" he said staring into space. "I miss him a lot"

"Yeah, I miss him too"

There was brief silence before David spoke again.

"So you think I should apologize?" he asked, breaking Kelechi out of his reverie.

"Apologize?" Kel asked, obviously oblivious to what David was saying.

"The girl I had an argument with" David reminded him

"Yeah, sorry I just trailed off for some seconds" Kel apologized as David nodded his head in understanding.

"You should apologize; she seems to have your well being at heart and make sure you do it the next time you see her"

"Roger that cap'n" David replied with a salute.

"So are you still eating?" Kel asked as he dug his fork into David's piece of meat.
