It was a Saturday evening, David had made some time to read and cover up on some subjects' scheme of work. It had been just three days since his mom left his Uncle's place and he had already missed her. He decided to call her immediately he was done. It wasn't up to thirty minutes when Kelechi stormed into the house, his face contorted in a rage so alarming that David panicked.
"What's the problem?" David asked
"Get dressed" he answered "mom has been shot"
"JESUS!!" David screamed, jumping to his feet "What happened?"
Kelechi faced was squeezed so tight, that he couldn't really bring himself to speak. David's mind was racing, could it be Oliver, but it wasn't up to a week since his apology.
"THAT BASTARD" Kelechi roared "I'LL KILL HIM"
"Oliver?" David asked, his anger close to boiling point, "Oliver did this?"
"Get dressed quick, let's go" Kelechi muttered
David ran into the bedroom to change up, the anger that had been dormant for a while was now at the verge of eruption.
'That devil, I'll personally kill him'.
David's mom was admitted by 8.30pm and was immediately booked for an operation. It was her neighbours that had rushed her to the hospital; Oliver had fled from the scene after the incident, no one knew where he had gone.
"I'm shocked that Oliver could such a thing" Mr. Agbim, one of Oliver's neighbours was saying, "we were hearing shouting's and arguments from his house, and immediately we heard the gunshot, we ran out, but Oliver was nowhere to be found"
Kelechi later called Uncle Sam and briefed him on what happened, before leaving with Mr. Agbim to make an official statement in the nearest police station.
David couldn't sleep, he kept pacing up and down the waiting room; he was scared, anxious and angry at the same time.
"This is not happening" he kept saying to himself "It's just a nightmare"
The surgery lasted for an hour, Kelechi was back by then; Uncle Sam had also arrived along with a very close family friend, Mr. Kalu, who was an assistant pastor in their church.
Immediately the doctor surface, everyone rushed to him, anxious to hear how it turned out.
The doctor understood and smiled, "Nothing to worry about, she pulled through, she was shot in her abdomen, although we managed to remove the bullet, I'm afraid her bowels has taken damage"
"How bad is it?" Kelechi asked
"Well, on the scale of one to ten, let's say a five, but trust me, by the time we are done with her she must have recovered completely" the doctor assured them.
"Can we see her?" David asked eagerly
"Of course you can, but not today, let her rest and so should all of you, now if you'll excuse me, I have other matters at hand" the young doctor said finally, walking briskly round the corner and down the stairs.
David sank into one of the chairs, eyes closed, the anxious feeling he had was now replaced with hot rage.
"Don't give into despair" Mr. Kalu said to him, obviously trying to comfort him, "Your mom will be alright"
David opened his eyes, he didn't know why, but all of a sudden he felt like punching Mr. Kalu on his smiling face, but it seemed Mr. Kalu sensed it because he immediately changed the topic.
"Alright let's pray" he said
It was 10.20pm when Mr. Kalu left; Kelechi had been talking earnestly with Uncle Sam for the past thirty five minutes.
