A YEAR and a half later everything had changed. daryl was in charge of the sanctuary, having rosaline at his side to support him. their life had seemed more stable than ever with the communities under equal control. maggie had given birth to her son, hershel, too.
rosaline was popular among a lot of people there. even the former saviors who'd worked under negan before the war. people loved rhaegar, as usual. he was friendly and loved the attention. as for her and daryl, things were great. he just disliked the idea of being a leader.
of course, she understood why. daryl was more of a lone wolf type and he liked being secluded from others. with people taking orders from him, it felt awkward. perhaps the only thing keeping him there was the mechanics part, where he could tamper with his motorcycle.
rosa still visited rick, michonne, and judith every other day. with or without daryl. at that point, judith had grown and she was about two years old. she walked, talked, and was learning kindergarten stuff too.
in the present, rick had invited her out for a walk after lunch. just their little family. even with carl gone, there was nothing that separated rick or her. michonne had even earned that spot in her heart.
judith was painting on a piece of cardboard that rosaline had found for her. she'd drawn rick, michonne, her, and even attempted rhaegar. all of them had happy faces, while rick had a grumpy face. both the women found that hilarious, considering that he had developed a permanent scowl.
rhaegar pranced ahead through the field as the family ambled through a long grassy field. the four of them were put to a stop as a flock of crows flew out from the front, cawing whilst flying off in the other direction.
rosaline chuckled along with michonne, whilst judith watched them go.
by the afternoon, she'd planned to return to daryl with them as they were supposed to make a run to a place they'd discovered. as everything in the nearby area had been practically stripped clean, they always had to make big trips.
this time they were going to downtown washington dc. instead of taking cars, they decided to take horses. rhaegar walked alongside them since he could keep pace. a group, called the oceanside had joined up with them too. they were there for the battle against the saviors. even jadis, the leader of the garbage people who'd been massacred by simon had come to live in alexandria.
before entering a building called the 'smithsonian', michonne had ensured there were no walkers inside. only one had come out when the door opened and she put it down with a quick slash of her katana.
"we're good for now. sweep protocol when we get in." she instructed, walking in.
rhaegar's claws clicked against the ground as he trotted in, nose high in the air sniffing for the dead. he let out a growl as carol spotted a walker with him. it was behind a desk, struggling to stand up on its own. rick killed it with his hatchet.
