4- The Beginning

A month later and the two women had been spending quite a lot of time together. They vibed with music both secular and gospel, liking many of the same artist.Both were into 90s RnB, NeoSoul and some 2000s Hip-Hop and Pop. Their interests were similar and they both loved to crochet. Yes it's very much an old lady hobby but both liked its calming effect. It allowed them to get away from the world for just a little bit. They had taught each other new stitches and were working on a blanket together. They also loved a lot of the same TV shows and loved to watch HGTV just to get ideas for decorating their homes, oddly each woman had an unfinished room in their houses. The women even liked a lot of the same foods, so choosing where to eat was never an issue.

"Nitra, why did we ever hate each other?" Beyoncé asked as they drove to a restaurant for dinner. Beyoncé had taken to calling her Nitra or TT because she actually liked Michelle's first name. Beyoncé is the only person besides her aunt that Michelle allows to call her something other than Michelle or variations of Michelle.

"To be honest BB, I have no idea. I think for me it was the fact that I was attracted to you and I had to fight it at first because I was engaged." Michelle calls Beyoncé either BB or Yoncé. Only two people call her Yoncé, Michelle and Kelly.

"I think it was the same for me but I wanted to fight it because of my past."

"Beyoncé, do you think you'll ever talk to your family again?"

She knew Michelle meant no harm with this question but it made Beyoncé tense up just a little.There was so much more to her past that she hadn't shared with Michelle. It took awhile for her to answer, she had to gather her thoughts.

"Some days, TT, I think that yes I would and then other days I think that if they wanted to talk to me they would've done it by now. I haven't been hiding and they still talk to my best friend's mother so...I really don't know. I can say that I have forgiven them for me because they are living and I didn't want to continue to wallow in that hurt they caused. I can't help that I like women, I was born this way but my family doesn't believe in that."

"I understand how you feel. I don't know how you feel but I do understand how your family disowning you can affect you."

"Thank you for not saying a bunch of crap about them being family and blah, blah, blah." Beyoncé reached for Michelle's hand and held it until they got to the restaurant.

It had been a month since their first date after choir rehearsal and they had been on five dates since then. At least one day of every weekend for the last month was spent with each other. Tonight's date was special though, Beyoncé had finally worked up the courage to ask Michelle to be her girlfriend. Michelle was also planning on asking Beyoncé the same thing. She went from having suppressed feelings that manifested as hate to liking the woman sitting next to her a lot. It was the same for Beyoncé. The way the women felt towards each other was reciprocated by both.

During dinner their discussion veered into fun topics like the mischief that they got into as teenagers, how Kevon was always getting Michelle into trouble, how Kelly would get Beyoncé into things but Beyoncé would be the one to get in trouble. They discussed work and life in general. Work for Michelle as a teacher was stressful but she loved it. She definitely didn't do it for the money and her parents had left her a significant amount of money. Beyoncé loved working in the Tech industry climbing up the corporate ladder but she eventually wanted to start her own company. Michelle also wanted to start an after school program and tutoring service. The mindset of the women clicked together well, as the both were thinking about generational wealth.

They learned so much more about each other. It seemed as if each date they'd been on their relationship and connection got stronger. Beyoncé was beginning to pick on Michelle's subtle mannerisms and Michelle was doing the same. Little things like if Michlle's nervous she rubs her left hand with her right thumb. Then if she wants to pay attention and really hear what you're saying she'll lean in and move her hair behind her ears. Beyoncé tends to have a soft smile if she is nervous, she messes with her hair when she's thinking and she bounces her leg(s) when she's deep in thought or concentrating without even realizing it. It was the subtle things that drove the development of their relationship.
