"No Trust"

"Should I wear pink or brown? There are so many options." Marin asked me while writing in her glittery notebook. We were in the Gryffindor common room but Senan couldn't come with us because he needed to finish a homework.

"Blue is your only option." I said before sipping on my tea.

"But blue isn't my color. Something pastel would match my hair."

"Remember, we're only there for the feast. And I can't dance so we can just hide behind the other students." I heard her notebook drop on the floor, catching my attention. She probably wasn't so happy with what I said. I remembered she told me we'd dance the night away at the ball.

"I mean...you can go out there and do your thing..."

"What are you scared about? It's just a ball."

"I'm scared of-Im scared of people!" She sighed and poured herself a cup of tea. I don't like it when I'm around a huge crowd. It's like I'm being squished into a sandwich and it would be harder to breathe.

"(Y/n), it'll be alright. Senan and I will be there with you. Besides, I'm sure someone's been wanting to see you on a pretty dress~." She teased, making me choke on my tea. "I doubt it." I said while coughing.

"You have a ton of time to think about it. But I've been wanting to ask..."

"Hm?" I looked up from my teacup, towards the girl who was wiggling her brows. "Who are you going with anyway?" I thought about it for a moment. Who was I going with? She's right. I'm not really in good terms with anyone in the school and I'm sure Senan and Marin will go to the ball together. I was in deep thought that I didn't even realize how quiet the room had become.

"No one"

"Aww, maaan! Not a single person is coming inside your head right now?"

"Well...I could ask Angelique if she doesn't have anyone to go with."

"I thought you'd ask Avery."

"Marin!" I screamed and threw her a pillow. She quickly hid under her blanket but the pillow still hit her.

"Sorry, that was stupid." She mumbled. I shook my head and took my journal where I have been writing our progress about the investigation. Not much has happened but I'm sure we'll figure out something.

"Why are we even talking about the ball? I was supposed to tell you something important."

"What?" She got out of her blanket and rolled over to where I was. "I finally asked Sir. Albus about the potion." Her eyes grew big but I couldn't tell if she was glad or not.
"Really?!"

"Yeah. Thank Merlin he didn't obliviate me though."

"So what happened?"

"He didn't respond when I asked him-well I think he was about to but Tom just had to arrive." I laid on my back on the bed and looked at the ceiling. I thought about how close I was to get a clear answer but I didn't quite make it.

"What if Riddle heard what you said?"
She asked in realization. "I thought so too. I wouldn't know because why on earth would he tell me?"

"I told you Riddle was a bad thing. There was something off about him from the very start." She might be right but it's bittersweet. We have our good days and our bad days. Ever since he told me that there was never a friendship between us I lost trust in him. That's what I get for trusting someone too much I guess.

"How's it going with the two of you by the way? I've seen you hanging out with him in the library." Marin asked out of the blue.

"It's just a project. I'll be out of his business right after we finish it."

"Must be hard keeping up with him."

"I'm not trying to keep up with him at all!" I scoffed. "If he finds it infuriating then he can suck my dick."
She needed up laughing like it was the last time she would. A smile slowly materialized on my face just thinking about how I've been a pain on the arse to him. Only then did I realize how much patience he had for me. I think the old Tom is still in him but I'm not sure why he's hiding him away.

It was the last day of our project making and we finished it earlier than expected. There were only a few ingredients left and we just needed to present our creation to class.

"Can you bring me that-" before he could finish, I already handed him the bottle he needed. He looked at it for a moment and proceeded on making the potion.

"I need the-" I gave him some herbs on a small plate. This time, he looked at me right after he realized I gave him the right one. There was clear amusement in his eyes and I can't help but feel proud of myself. He measured t before throwing some into the cauldron. Finally! It was finished!

We both took a peek inside it and only did I feel some sense of relief when we realized it was perfect. "Finally." I sighed. The potion was now in the bottle where it can be secured and it was odd that he trusted me with it.

Something from the window caught my eye. It was the same owl with a letter but this time it seemed to know what it was doing. I opened the window and carefully took the letter.

Could it be from that strange person again? Now I could confirm that it wasn't Sir. Albus who was sending them to me. I opened it and it had that same handwriting but still no sign.

Dear (Y/n). We have been waiting for your arrival last night but you didn't come. I figured you don't trust me that well to have us meet up. If you received this letter, I would like you to know that I will sadly reduce sending my letters or possibly never again. We're in a disastrous situation at the moment and we can't have you involved.

We'll be here again tonight but it's up to you if you want to come. I cannot say my name for this letter might be stolen from the person most impatient to catch me but despite all this, we only wish for your protection and nothing else.

should I go? Before I could answer my own question, Tom spoke up. "You're not going." He calmly said. He was leaning on the wall behind me with his arms crossed. I couldn't believe he had the nerves to tell me what to do.

"I'm definitely going and you can't do anything about it."

"You're going to get yourself killed." I gasped and thought he was doubting me. How much doubt does he have in me that he's so confident I'll die right away?

"Are you underestimating me?" I asked. I decided to gather my things and get out of there so the conversation will end.

"At least let me go with you." I stopped and gave him a confused look. "What...?

"I don't trust you with yourself."

"Gee, that sounds like a you problem." I continued packing my stuff. "Why are you being hard-headed again?" He asked me with clear annoyance in his voice. "It's either you let me go with you or Professor Dumbledore gets to know about this."

"You bloody snitch!" I slammed my bag down on the couch. He only gave me that annoying smirk making me wanna slit his throat. "It's up to you (L/n). Why don't you want him to find out anyway?"

"Ugh. You don't need to know. I'm not going anymore." I rolled my eyes and got the heck outta there. Why does he wanna go with me anyway? It's not like he's gonna get hurt if I go there by myself. He needs to sort out his priorities.
