"Oh look who it is." Leann says with an eye roll as Marcus walks past us. I look up from my phone to see Marcus staring right at me with this confident half smirk on his face. I start to blush and look away from him as fast as possible. "Why does he do that?"
"Do what?" I say as I try to play dumb.
"Why does stare at you like that? It's creepy." Leann continues. I pretend I've never noticed.
"I don't know what you're talking about." I lie. I'm only lying because I know how Leann and everyone else feel about Marcus. He's a snowboarding prodigy with a reputation for being a player. If I show the slightest interest in him, I know how they'll react. Everyone will tell me to stay clear of him and find someone else, so I don't say anything at all.
"You're telling me that you don't notice Marcus Kleveland checking you out every two minutes?" Leann asks in disbelief. "I don't believe you."
"I don't pay any attention to Marcus, so no, I haven't noticed him looking at me. And I doubt he's checking me out. You're probably just overreacting." I tell her.
"I'm not over reacting, y/n! I'm telling you he likes you." She rants on. I roll my eyes at her.
"Okay, okay whatever you say." I say dismissively. I try to change the subject as gracefully as possible. "I'm going to the bathroom. I'll be right back."
"Alright. Hurry back." Leann says as starts texting someone on her phone. I get up and head towards the bathroom. I casually try to look around for Marcus, but he finds me first. His fingers lock into mine as he pulls me into him. My back is up against the wall as Marcus' face is only an inch from mine.
"Hi." I say quietly.
"Hi." He says. He then kisses me, which I love but I force myself to resist.
"Stop. Somebody will see us." I tell him with my hand on his chest.
"So?" Marcus asks as he starts kissing along my jaw.
"Come on, Marcus. Leann will see us." I continue. I gently push him away, though I don't really want to.
"I don't care if your friends see." Marcus tells me as he keeps trying to move in for another kiss. "We should just tell your friends that we're dating."
"But isn't sneaking around fun?" I ask with an smirk as I grab his sweatshirt and pull him closer to me.
"Yeah, sneaking around is fun, but do you know what else is fun? Going on actual dates and holding hands in public." Marcus says with a little pout. I kiss him quickly.
"I know, I know. I'll them, okay? Just not yet." I assure Marcus, but I've been saying this for a month now. Every time I almost tell my friends about him, I chicken out. I really like Marcus, but I just can't seem to tell my friends.
"Okay. Fair enough. Can I kiss you now?" Marcus asks. I nod as he moves in closer.
"Busted." I hear Leann say. I push Marcus away from me instantly. My instinct is to get as far away from him as possible. "What's going on here, guys?"
"Nothing." I say too quickly. "We were just talking."
"Oh really?" Leann says as she puts her hand on her hip. I can feel Marcus glaring at me, but I refuse to look over at him. I know he's thinking I should just tell her, but I'm not ready.
"Yes really. Nothing was happening." I repeat.
"I'm just gonna go." Marcus says awkwardly. I finally look at him and see the disappointment written all over his face. If I really like him then I need to do something. I reach for his hand so that he can't walk away. "Leann, I lied. I'm...we're...Marcus is my boyfriend."
"What?" She questions. Her eyes grow wide and I brace myself for her reaction. "Why didn't you tell me? How long have you been together? Is it serious?"
I open my mouth to reply, but Marcus is faster.
"She was afraid to tell you, Leann. She knows you don't like me and I understand why. I've done some shitty things, but I really like y/n. I'm not going to hurt her. She's different than everyone else. I'd do anything for her. So I get why you hate me, but I'm not going anywhere unless she tells me to." Marcus explains.
"I'm sorry I lied to you, Leann." I say honestly.
"I'm sorry I made you feel like you had to lie." Leann responds.
"So you're okay with this?" I ask her as I look back at Marcus. This wasn't what I was expecting.
"Yeah I'm okay with it. It will take some getting used to, but I'm okay with it." She says. "Okay I'll go away now and let you two finish doing whatever it was you were doing..."
"That wasn't too bad, was it?" Marcus asks with a huge smile once Leann is out of earshot. I've never seen him look so happy.
"No it really wasn't bad at all. I'm sorry I didn't tell her sooner." I tell him. I didn't realize how much he wanted me to be open about our relationship.
"It's alright. I knew you wanted to keep it low key. I get that, but I'm just so happy I can finally tell everybody that you're mine." Marcus says as his hands meet my waist.
"Oh really? You're going to tell everybody that we're dating?" I ask with a giggle.
"Yup. Watch. HEY EVERYBODY! I'M ABOUT TO MAKEOUT WITH MY SUPER AWESOME GIRLFRIEND!" He shouts loudly for everyone to here. Everybody, and I mean everybody, turns around and looks at us.
"Oh my god! Stop!" I say as my cheeks start glowing red. He just laughs and then starts kissing me. I guess this is what it's like to date Marcus Kleveland.
