Y/N POV

As the taxicab neared, I couldn't help but hope that the impact wouldn't hurt too badly and that I'd die quickly and as painlessly as possible. Just as the cab was a hairs breadth from killing me, I felt a pair of strong arms lift me up. I glanced up at my saviour to see that it was a man in red spandex swinging on what looked like...spider's webs? Then it hit me with a jolt. I was being carried off to who knows where by a complete stranger. I was very grateful to be alive, but this could be a psycho or a deranged supervillain like Loki.

"Hi, thanks for saving me and all, buddy, but could you please put me down now?" I asked, trying not to sound too impatient or scared. I also tried not to think about my crushing fear of heights.

"Where do you want to go?" The man...or boy, maybe around fifteen I now guessed, judging by the sound of his voice. He was clearly putting on a false deeper voice, maybe to impress me or something, but I could tell it was fake.

"If it's possible, sir, could you take me to Midtown High school?" I blurted as I buried my head in his muscular chest, trying not to look down at the cars below. They looked like toys from the dizzying height we were at. I felt like I was going to be sick. At this point, going back and facing the taxi striking me wasn't such a bad idea.

"Of course ma'am" He stammered, adorably embarrassed by my action. It seemed familiar somehow, it gave me a large wave of déjà vu. "You don't have to call me 'sir,' you can just call me Spider-Man" he continued. "I'm your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, I keep everything running smoothly around here, keeping Queens free of crime."

I nodded, relieved that he wasn't a villain. "Thanks for saving me" I whispered, my mouth as dry as the desert. "I'm sorry if I'm not being very social. You did just save my life after all. It's just that I'm really afraid of heights"

"Oh, oops" Spider-Man said " We can go lower if you'd like"

"Yes please" I agreed weakly as my stomach plummeted with the sudden decrease in altitude as we descended. Now that we were lower, I could properly enjoy the ride. I opened my eyes wide and took in the scenery. While we flew, I looked up at my new-found hero. He was making small grunting sounds as he swung, concentrating on keeping us aloft. He must be so strong to be able to carry me while swinging. And those webs were fascinating. I wondered how he made them, but I figured it was rude to ask, so I bit my tongue to keep my curiosity in check.

When we got to Midtown, Spider-Man carefully placed me on the ground.

"Now if you ever need help again, you know who to call." He said, waving as he swung off.

I waved back and pivoted to face the school. Now, confident that the hardest part of my day was over, I walked towards the school building. Oh, wait. I hadn't begun my first day at school yet. Scratch that, almost dying was probably going to be the easiest part of my day.

Spider-Man's POV

Without hesitation, I dove down in front of the swerving cab and snatched up y/n into my arms. She glanced up at me confusedly, probably wondering why she wasn't a splat of goo on the ground. She looked very nervous, and I couldn't tell why.

"Hi, thanks for saving me and all, buddy, but could you please put me down now?" Y/n said, clutching onto my neck for dear life.

Man, that girl has a grip! She was digging her fingernails into me and I tried not to wince in pain. I was worried that she'd recognize my voice from earlier, and would guess my secret, so I tried to make my voice sound deeper as I said "Where do you want to go?"

"If it's possible, sir, could you take me to Midtown High school?" She squeaked out, shoving her face in my chest. I tensed up, surprised by her forward move. No one ever did that kind of thing to me! I was also doing a double take because I couldn't believe my luck. She actually goes to the same school as me. Maybe I did have a chance with her...

"Of course ma'am" I stammered nervously. Despite my nerves, I was so glad that she didn't want to be taken somewhere farther away like Brooklyn. May would kill me if I could as late for the umpteenth time. Then I realized that she had called me 'sir.' I chuckled at the formality. "You don't have to call me 'sir,' you can just calm me Spider-Man. I'm your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, I keep everything running smoothly around here, keeping Queens free of crime."

She nodded, which I could feel as she still had her head wedged tightly in my chest. "Thanks for saving me" Y/n whispered hoarsely. "I'm sorry if I'm not being very social. You did just save my life after all. It's just that I'm really afraid of heights"

I felt like an idiot. How had I not noticed? That's why she was behaving so peculiarly, not because she likes me. Why does that give me such a sharp pang of disappointment? I literally just met this girl. Shaking it off, I guiltily said, "Oh, oops, we can go lower if you'd like."

"Yes please" She agreed readily.

I quickly lowered down closer to the ground, not wanting her to have to spend a minute more in discomfort. As we swung lower, she removed her head cautiously from my chest as though she was a turtle pulling out of its shell. I felt colder in the area where she used to have her warm head. I was tempted for a moment to go higher again just so she'd edge closer to me. I was sweating hard now. It was really hard to carry a girl while swinging. Usually I didn't have to use one arm to swing. As we continued on, she bit her lip and I could see that she was burning with the desire to ask a question. Just as I was about to ask what it was, we arrived.

"Now if you ever need help again, you know who to call." I said, waving as I swung off. I could hear her shyly muttering "thanks again." I was going to be so late for class, but I had to make it look like I was going somewhere else to deflect suspicion. Besides, it was worth a detention or two to have gotten a chance to meet y/n. I ducked into an alley and after looking to both sides to make sure no one was watching I took off my spidey suit and put on my school clothes. Then I walked into the school building, very pleased with my great start to the day.
