Draco's POV
I walked into a supposedly empty compartment, and find Granger there, curled up in a corner, thinking. She didn't seem too happy to see me, but I didn't care. I sat down. I tried to act like I didn't care, but my heart was racing. She didn't seem to be that mad, so I stayed and talked. It actually turned out to be fun. Turned out she wasn't so bad, after all. Now that I think about it, I only despised her because she was friends with Potter and Weasley. She was the only 'mudblood' that I picked on.' I thought to myself as I went to the bathroom to change. 'Why did I even have to pick on people in the first place anyway? Oh, right. Father said that everyone that wasn't pureblood wasn't 'worthy to even clean our shoes.' I was so naive.'
I changed into my robes, got my stuff, and walked into the huge castle. I sat over at the Slytherin table, alone, and looked over at Hermione. 'She looks beautiful tonight.' I thought. 'Wait! What am I thinking! Hermione Granger, and Draco Malfoy? Ha! That's not gonna happen.' I felt my cheeks flush, and stared down at the table, embarrassed. My head snapped up as I heard Professor McGonagall's voice.
"Hello students! Before we eat, I have some announcements. We have a new Defense against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Murphy." An old man stood up from the table and waved. "Since I shall be taking role as headmaster, the new transfiguration professor is, former Hogwarts student, Professor Clearwater. Also, in order to promote all the houses being pleasant to each other, We have selected one Head Girl and one Head Boy. They will get their own common room on the Seventh Floor. Those two seventh years are... Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy!"
'What!? Me and Granger?' I looked over at her and saw that she had an equal amount of disgust on her face.
"Head Girl and Boy, please take your things and follow me. I will show you your common room." she said. "Oh, by the way, the big portrait of Dumbledore is the entrance, and the password is 'Lemon Drops'."
We followed McGonagall up to our room. I took one look and gasped. So did Granger. It was beautiful! The walls were white, and the carpet was black, a nice contrast. There were tall bookshelves in the corner. There was a glass table in the center of the room, and there were soft, brown couches surrounding it. In a separate room, here was a small kitchen. But the ceiling, like the Great Hall, looked like the sky outside. It was breathtaking.
"This, this is just, oh my, I just love it!" Granger sighed and fell onto one of the couches.
"Well! Tomorrow, your classes start first thing in the morning. Your bedrooms are up those stairs." McGonagall showed us our rooms. One of them, I was guessing was mine, was green, silver and black, like the Slytherin house. It looked nice; there wasn't too much of any color. Granger's room was a little bit more girly, and it was scarlet and gold, like the Gryffindor house. I started exploring after McGonagall left. There was another bedroom, but there were more neutral colors, like a guest bedroom.
"So, I'm going to bed, then. Goodnight, Mal-Draco." said Hermione timidly.
"Okay... well, see you tomorrow Granger." I replied.
I look around my room. There was a huge walk-in closet, with a note from McGonagall saying:
I do hope you like your new common room. If you point your wand at anything and say 'Coloris Mutatio', and the color you want, it will change to the preferred color.
-Professor McGonagall
I pointed to a mahogany desk facing the window and said 'Coloris Mutatio White', and watched as it slowly painted itself white. I laid on my bed for awhile, thinking. Granger had called me by my first name! Why though? I thought of it as a peace offering. 'Maybe things aren't going to be so bad, after all. But then again, Granger can be annoying. But I'll have to live with it. Heh' I thought as I drifted off to sleep.
