Hermione’s POV

As soon as we got back to the Head’s common room, a ran into my room and flopped on my bed. But, because of that, a piece of crumpled up paper fell out of my jumper and floated to the floor. I picked it up, and re-read it. It was the letter my mum sent to me before she...

I let out a small sob, and curled up on my bed, crying myself to sleep.

“C’mon, Hermione!  We can’t miss the train!” Draco called out to me, already running.

“Well, we would be perfectly early if you hadn’t lost your shoes!” I cried indignantly.

We jumped on the Hogwarts Express, just as the whistle blew. I found a seat in the very back of the train, and relaxed for the first time in a week.

“Does your mum know about...me coming?” I asked after the train had started moving.

“Don’t worry. I owled her, and everything is fine.” He explained calmly.

“I just don’t want to show up by surprise, and--”

“Everything will be fine,” He stopped me. I took a deep breath and leaned my head against the window.

“Who else is coming? To the party, that is?”

“Well, let’s see. I believe Potter and the Weasleys are coming, Loon-- Luna and Longbottom, you, I think that Lavender girl from Gryffindor, Astoria and Blaise, and hmmm… anyone else you would probably know…? Ah, the Parkinsons.” He spat the last word out.

“Her?! Why is she coming?!” I asked in disgust.

“As I explained, my mum wants to fix broken friendships… as well as keep some of the ones that never broke. She was always good friends with Mrs. Parkinson.” He looked me square in the eyes, “Believe me, I don’t want them coming either.”

“Pug.” I muttered.

Draco looked thoughtful, then laughed. “You think she looks like a pug? Huh, never thought about it, but now that you mention it...”

We sat in silence for a while, then there was a sharp knock on the compartment door. It slid open to reveal Blaise and Astoria.

“Hey ‘Mione! Hear you’re coming to Draco’s party!” Astoria said as she sat down next to me.

“Ya know, you’re supposed to bring a date.  It’s pureblood tradition!” Blaise wiggled his eyebrows as he sat next to Draco.

“Me and Blaise are going together,” Astoria announced excitedly.

“So who are you gonna bring?” Blaise nudged Draco, “I hear Parkinson has a thing for you,” He wiggled his eyebrows annoyingly.  Draco shot me a look as if to say 'oh hell no.'

“What about you ‘Mione?” Astoria asked. “I heard you and Weasley were a couple last year!”

“I don’t know…” I looked down, blushing.

“Well, well, well…” Astoria said. Blaise looked at her confusedly, but she just smirked.

“I’ll probably go just alone, I guess.” I finally told them. “Hey, it’s pureblood tradition, but I’m not a pureblood, so ha!”

“I’ll find someone to go with, but I don’t really want to go with Pansy.” Draco sneered the word ‘Pansy’.

Astoria was about to reply, but was cut off by the train whistle, signaling that they were finally at King’s Cross Station.
