Hermione’s POV

The moment I got back to the common room, I saw that Draco was not there. He must be in his room. I thought.  I ran to my own room and flopped on the bed.  Actually, I flopped on a letter, from my mum.

Dear Hermione,

I just want you to know, that before I die, I want you to be happy. We are being attacked right now, and I’m scrawling this note to you in hopes that you will get it.  I love you ‘Mione, please stay safe! And that boy you like, bless you my darling.  I want you to be together, happily.

They’re closing in now, I’m so sorry, my love! I’m warning you now, there are still Death Eaters roaming, they’re here to kill me! Your father is at work, but they’ll probably come to get him soon. Don’t send your friends or come, I don’t want you to get in any more danger than you already have.  Please be careful!

I’m sorry I have to go! I can’t write anymore, they’re coming up to my hiding spot! Goodbye ‘Mione! I love you!

With so much love,

Your mother

PS:Please, please, please stay safe and remember

everything you were taught at Hogwarts, and

remember that I love you, and always will, even

if we are worlds apart.

The moment I finished the letter, I burst into uncontrollable sobs.  By now my mum and dad were dead.  Killed by any loose Death Eaters.  Draco heard me crying and came to my room.

“What happened? Are you okay?” He asked worriedly.

I showed him the letter from my mum.

“Oh God, ‘Mione, I’m so--” He started.  I laid my head on his shoulder, but he wrapped me into a hug.

“It will be okay,” He soothed.

“M-my m-m-mum i-is m-most l-likely d-dead by n-now!” I stuttered through sobs.

“I know, I read it.” He said softly.

“After I-I g-got the p-potion form S-s-slughorn, t-to un-obliviate my m-mum and d-dad, I-I t-thought they w-would b-be s-safe!” I cried.

“It’s not your fault!” Draco held me close.

“B-but if t-they d-didn’t know t-they h-had m-me, m-maybe t-they would h-have b-been s-safe.” I let Draco hug me tightly.

“It is not, and never will be, your fault.” I rested my head in his arms.

“What the bloody hell is going on in here!” Fred appeared in the painting that hung above my bed.

“F-Fred!” I stammered, tears still streaming down my face.

“What--” Draco showed the painting the note, in hopes that he could read it.  Turns out he could and immediately apologized.

“‘Mione, I’m so sorry!” He whispered. I immediately realized that all my Mum and Dad wanted was for me to be happy, not to cry like a caged puppy. I needed to be strong, for them. So they didn’t die in vain.

I stood up, drying my eyes. “I’m going to McGonagall. Fred, come with me. Draco, do what you want.”

“Are you crazy? Of course I’m coming with you. I would never leave you like this.” Draco said confidently, blushing slightly. I nodded, snatched the letter, motioned for the two boys to follow me, and strode out of the common room.
