Coffee Time Between Mother and Daughter

No one's POV

It was already five o'clock pm, schools and offices have already dismissed their schedule. Katsumi was already walking out of her office as she recieved goodbyes from her co-workers especially Miko. Katsumi checked her phone and sighed as she jogged down the stairs carrying her bag while her heels clicked whenever they met with the stairs' tiles. She jogged outside the building and made her way to her car. Unlocking the vehicle, she opened the door to the driver's seat and got in while putting her bag at the passenger's seat. Closing the door, Katsumi looked at her phone again and drove to the guard house to check out of the attendance machine as she greeted the guard a goodbye and went on her way.

Timeskip

After minutes of driving, Katsumi finally made it to a fancy café where her mother Tatiana had invited her over. She parked her car at the parking lot, grabbed her bag and walked to the café's door. The security guard noticed her coming and opened the door and welcomed her while she nodded in response. Cold breeze coming from the air conditioners brushed her skin making her shiver a bit, she scanned the café and there she saw her mother sitting alone on a table for two checking something on her phone with a half empty cup and a large sized cup of creamy blue shake in front of her. Katsumi made her way to where her mother was sitting at and took a deep breath. "Hi mother," Katsumi spoke up and placed a hand on Tatiana's shoulder making her flinch and quickly look at her direction. "GAH! Oh, Katsumi my dear, you scared me," Tatiana placed her hand on her chest and took a deep breath.

"I apologize mother," Katsumi replied making her mother glare at her in a teasing way "Whatever, come take a seat," Tatiana smiled at her as Katsumi took a seat. "Why did you uhhh... you know...," Katsumi asked at her mother, curious why she invited her over a cup of coffee "Come on Katsumi, it's my day off I wanted us to have a date, mother and daughter date!" Tatiana smiled, a chuckle coming out after. Katsumi looked at blue shake and stared at it from top to bottom. "I ordered it for you, I know blueberries are you favorite," Tatiana spoke up gaining her daughter's attention "Oh, thank you mother," Katsumi replied and grabbed a straw from the table and poked a whole on the cup's lid with it.

"What about Kyoshi and Mizuno?" Katsumi asked taking a slurp from the shake "Well, it is my day off afterall, I invited Kyoshi for lunch in a restaurant and accompanied him back to school, and at home I had a bit of a music session and a movie marathon with Mizuno," Tatiana stated while placing her phone down and taking a sip from her cup. Even so Tatiana had spent time with two of her children and is now currently on a mother and daughter date with her first born, it still bothered her that her other son is missing all this, and who was she kidding it bothered her everyday.

"So, how was work my dear?" Tatiana asked Katsumi wanting to have a conversation with her daughter. "It was alright, tiring as usual," Katsumi replied and adjusted her seat closer "Uh-huh, and the new upgraded model for your company's newly and improved laptops and computers?" Tatiana smiled and placed her hands together on the table. "Well, it's going well, but I feel like improving the systems more so I uh... made a sketch about it," Katsumi replied and went to her bag pulling out a few papers and showing them to her mother.

Tatiana examined the drawings one-by-one looking at the first sketch of the computers, the laptops functions' support, some mistakes being crossed out, arrows pointing out the wires and labels, etc. All of this was enough to impress her. Tatiana adored every single one of her children's works from their creations to their achievements even their drawings. She continued looking at the drawings while listening to Katsumi explain about the improvements of her company's computers and laptops, afterall the brand is one of Japan's most famous. Tatiana simply adored each of her daughter's drawings from the lines, to the thick ones, and the shadings, enough to make her happy.

After hearing Katsumi explain all the things that she wanted to add in the gadgets' systems, she took another slurp from her blueberry shake and sighed. "So, what do you think?" Katsumi asked her mother making Tatiana smile even more "Beautiful, you're father always knew you'd have a talent for drawing," Tatiana looked at daughter who frowned at her words. "That's an understatement don't ya think mother?" Katsumi said happy that her mother complemented her drawings but hurt upon hearing her reply. "Hmm?" Tatiana looked at her daughter who looked back at her with sad eyes "Kokichi was the one with talent," Katsumi replied as she hung her head low in shame. "Kokichi was the one who had talent, he designed my company's building, made up its name and designed even the building's inside, he had the talent and I watched him do all the work while I waited for my time to take it all,"Katsumi said and sighed.
"All I did was ask him to do this and that," she looked up at her mother who looked sad by her words.

"My dear, Kokichi may have designed the building, named your company, even made some arrangements during its opening but that doesn't mean you have no talent yourself, I mean look at what I'm holding, I see lovely sketches, soon-to-be a reality made by my daughter's hands with the help of her workers, you also did a major role when your company was still being made, you hired construction workers to build it and even helped them with the supplies, Kokichi only made a sketch out of the company from your words, they were all from you, your brother only drew what was on his mind, he drew what he imagined it would look like because you never game him any details of what it would look like, you gave him concepts for names and he was able to make one just for you, all of those came from you," Tatiana explained while Katsumi let out another sigh.

"Now I'm not saying you're better than your brother, I'm saying is you have your own set of creativity, and Kokichi has his, I love you two very much and not to mention, you made Mizuno and then Kyoshi came, now I have four children I love them all equally even if one of them is not human, I love them all," Tatiana added and held one of Katsumi's hands. "I know you miss Kokichi, it's been a long time since he was taken away and it's been a while since the killing game ended, even I, your mother is still recovering from the pain," Tatiana said as Katsumi used her free hand to hold her mother's hand that was holding hers as comfort. Her mother went to a lot of therapy sessions, they all seemed to help heal her depression but she knew her mother wasn't done yet.

"You know, my therapist once asked me that 'what if, the participants of the killing game were still alive, hidden away but alive,' I thought I about it and it kinda gave me hope," Tatiana said which made something in Katsumi's mind click "And what if they're not?" Katsumi asked "Then we'll have to accept reality then my child," Tatiana replied and looked at her now empty cup as she took her hand from Katsumi's hold and grabbed her phone.

"What if... Huh... I wonder," Katsumi thought and shook her cup and took a slurp from it.
