Chapter 19: The Oma Family

Shuichi's POV

"BYE!" Maki, Himiko, and me all bid Katsumi and Kyoshi good bye. Maki and Himiko made their way to the apartment while I went to my uncle's house instead "Uncle!" I called and knocked on the door. Seconds later, the door opened revealing my uncle who seems to be like he just woke up or something. "Ey! Kiddo, how did the investigation go?" He asked while letting me in his house "It was tiring but great! I didn't really got to use my detective skills yet haha but it was good, we obtained loads of information in just a day!" I smiled and took a seat on the couch. "Just today? Wow, as expected from you all and with a member from the Oma family this investigation would be just quick as day," my uncle said while something hit me in the head. That's right. The Oma family.

"Hey uncle," I called him while he looked at me ready to listen to my question "Uhmm I'm still wondering about the first day I asked you about what happened to me before the killing game and when I mentioned Katsumi, you uh... you kinda reacted like you knew her," I said and took a deep breath. "Do you? Perhaps... knew the Oma family?" I asked and looked at him "My, my, so you still haven't forgotten it huh? Mmhmm I knew you would ask me about that again," he said and sat with me. "Since you asked now I'll tell you," he added.

"Now where should we start... Aha! Yes, the Oma family's most well known member," he said and looked at me while I listened to him. "There was this guy named Katashi Oma, he was my classmate back in middle school, he was smart, cool, funny, and a bit of a troublemaker, has a brother named Kenji who was also a troublemaker," he said and closed his eyes trying to recall everything about him. "Him and I weren't really close but we had oue
r interactions sometimes, he was known in and out of our school, he got the looks so whenever he goes the ladies would always follow him which made him uncomfortable," my Uncle let out a chuckle.

"When it comes to trouble it's always him. Pranks, tricks, and some issues like he would cut classes to walk around the town or would just do some things that would make him earn a suspended period from the school head, he was also... a LIAR," my uncle sighed while my eyes widened. Liar huh? I might assume this is Kokichi's father but I'm also not sure, maybe his uncle but I'm certain this is his father. "But just because he was a liar doesn't mean he lied for bad things, true lying is bad but he had good intentions," he stated while I scooted closer to him.

"What are those intentions uncle?" I asked. "Well it was simple actually, lying so he'll get some benefit for the family, lying about the issues happening in our school so that no one gets in trouble, and lying for our safety. You see, some students from other schools would usually pick on us but in the end, Katashi lies to them gaining more and more benefit for him and other people," my uncle exclaimed and took a pillow and placed it on the back of his head.

"We were classmates from elementary to college and it's kinda funny when you think about it," my uncle chuckled again and sighed "The he met this Russian chick named Tatiana Kuznetsov, a very sweet girl but get on her bad side and the next thing you know is that you'll be flying across the sky and landing in the drinage systems," his uncle smiled while remembering Tatiana and how they first met (Drinage systems in Japan are so huge that citizens and tourists say that the statue of Liberty can fit in it!) "And what was their first encounter like?" I asked him wanting to know more about Kokichi's family.

Kokichi, he was one of the mysterious people I've ever known I tried understanding him but he was too confusing, he never revealed any of his back stories, but of course that was impossible since our memories were rewritten during that time and I don't think his family was ever added in his 'memories' at all and DICE probably didn't exist at all in here. But if he's alive and woke up with the others then he should remember his real memories like we did.

"My nephew, you're really curious huh? Okay, well I'll tell you then, it's kinda funny if you ask me, Tatiana accidentally knocked Katashi out because she thought she was being harassed when he was just poking her shoulder because she dropped something and was about to give it back, he was out for like 8 minutes and we had to carry him to the school clinic, when he finally woke up the first face he saw was hers and I guess you could say it was love at first sight," he laughed a bit while I smiled, it's a really unrealistic type of 'when we first met' but I guess it could happen in reality sometimes.

A few minutes if not, hours have passed and my uncle told me everything there was in the Oma family, and it turns out my thought of Katashi being Kokichi's father was right. He told me how many members are there, in the Oma family, turns out there are a lot of them. The family is known for big business and if you include the family of Kokichi's mother, it goes to a whole new level and on top of that, some of them are rich too, they earn their own money off course, and uncle even mentioned that lying is in their blood but they're pretty honest once they see you as a trustworthy one.

A... trustworthy one. That's right I saw that word under my photo back at Kokichi's dorm at the killing game, but I never minded it not even for one bit. Trustworthy, maybe that's also one thing Katsumi hates about me, I must admit I'm a bit dense and sometimes I only see what I want to see and if I keep that up, I don't think I deserve to be called the Ultimate Detective, I'd be a fraud instead.

And he told me more and it turns out that Katashi and Tatiana are Katsumi and Kokichi's parents. And unfortunately, just like Kyoshi mentioned before, Katashi died from leukemia and that's where Tatiana met his father but then he died as well. "The Oma family is a pretty big family out there my nephew and dangerous too, well not really but they're strong enough to break your bones, the smaller ones are even dangerous but you don't need to worry about them," he said while patting my head. "But if you ever meet Tatiana, at least apologize to her or Kokichi if he gets found alive," he looked at me and I already knew what he was talking about.

"Yeah, I know," I replied with a frown, I knew it would come to this and I really want to apologize to them but I never met their mom yet nor know what she looks like, and Katsumi doesn't even want to start a conversation with me.  "You're alone Kokichi, you'll always be," I never meant to hurt him that way but I was so stressed during that trial and he was probably lying so he can keep himself from breaking down over Gonta's execution and it was... you know... Cause when you're stressed and tired you sometimes end up saying cruel things to someone and they might not even understand.

I understand what I said and I really want to apologize to them about it, and Kokichi if we ever find them alive. "Well, that's it that I know about the Oma family I hope that answers your questions," my uncle spoke up and got up from the sofa "Yeah uncle, it did," I replied with a smile "You know, time flies by so fast! Seeing you as a baby was like yesterday so small and cute," he approached me and kissed my head and then patted me again.

(Do you ever get kisses from your uncle? Me? Nah... I get headpats instead)

"Go, Maki and Himiko are waiting," he smiled while I nodded in response "Alright uncle and once again, thank you," I hugged him while he hugged me back and accompanied me to the front door while I made my way to the apartment again. "Help each other for the investigation, gather evidences, find out the other participants' status, and reunite with them... If ever they're alive but IM SURE! THEY'RE ALIVE!" I thought and sighed then made my way to the apartment's entrance.
