The next day was quiet and soon we were headed to go see his mom. I was nervous to say the least. I had never been taken to see the parents before. I was also a little excited to meet the woman responsible for raising such a wonderful and sweet man. It was too long before we got to her house since she lived just down the road. He had bought her the small cottage since she had retired and wanted to give him his space for when he wanted to start a family.

"Hello, my baby boy." she says as she gives him a big hug as we walk through the door. "And who is this beautiful woman with you?"

"Mom, this is Jessica. The one I have been telling you about."

"Oh, my. Come here and give me a hug, it's so nice to finally meet you."

"It's nice to meet you too, Mrs. Stevens." I say as she hugs me.

"Call me Janis or mom. I want to thank you for taking such good care of my son. I know he is hard headed."

"You are welcome, Janix. He wasn't too bad though. He was the perfect little patient." I giggle and wink at Jacob as he heads into the living room. We sit and talk for a bit. His mom tells me all sorts of stories of him growing up. It warms my heart to know he had such a wonderful time growing up. I wish I had had that. My parents were never as nurturing as his. Don't get me wrong, I had it good growing up, but my parents were too focused on work and as they said, providing for the family that we were never that close and didn't do much as a family.

"Well, I believe dinner is about ready. How about you help me set the table?"

"Absolutely." I say with a smile. We all head into the dining room and sit down to eat. "This is amazing. Thank you so much for dinner.

"MM, I have made peach cobbler for dessert and have vanilla ice cream on top. I will go get it."

"I'll help you get it, mom."

"I'll come too."

"That's okay. We got it. Let me serve you for once." He said as he followed his mom into the kitchen and smiled at me.

"So mom, what do you think of her?" he asked once they were out of ear shot.

"She is a wonderful woman. Why do you ask?"

"I am going to propose to her next weekend and you know I always have to ask your opinion on things."

"Son, you don't need my approval. It's what your heart tells you. If you love her with all your heart and she fills that void, then it doesn't matter what others think. Yes, I really like her though."

"Mom, that makes me so happy to know that you like her too. She means the world to me and I would love for my two favorite women to get along." He says as he kisses her cheek and grabs the dessert and takes it into the dining room to Jessica.

"This is amazing. This is the best cobbler I have had."

"Well, sweetheart. I can give you the recipe. This is my son's favorite dessert."

I help her clean up and we sit around for a little while longer and then head home.

"Your mother is the sweetest."

"I told you she was. She is an amazing woman. I just wish you could have met my dad. He was pretty awesome too."

"I wish I could have too. I'm sorry he is no longer here. What happened? I didn't want to ask your mom. I could see it in her eyes when she would talk about him."
