It's been five years since we were married and I gave birth to John Micheal. He has kept me on my toes since the day he could run. Yes, I said run. As soon as his little feet started moving, he was off like a rocket and never slowed down. He is following in his father's footsteps. He was riding by himself on the pony his father bought him last year. He always had a rope in his hand and would try to lasso anything that didn't move. He was such a great kid, always into something. His father promised him that he would start teaching him how to ride the bulls like he does. This has me scared to death. Jacob has me assured that he will not actually be anything that could hurt him till he is a lot older. He built a little pretend bull in the back yard kinda like a hobby horse, that he will learn on for a while.
I am standing on our back porch watching John play in the back yard roping his favorite stuffed animal. I didn't hear Jacob walk up behind me, as he wrapped his arms around my belly and place his chin on my shoulder.
"How are you doing, momma?"
I am doing okay at they moment."
How's our girl doing?"
Yes, I am pregnant with a little girl this time, and due any day now.
"She is resting on my bladder right now. Earlier she was giving my ribs hell. I finally got her to settle down. She is as active as her brother was. I think she will be just as much as a handful as her brother."
I hope she is more like you. I don't think I could handle another one of me."
"I guess we will see."
"How are you today?
"A little better than yesterday."
We lost his mother a few weeks to cancer. She fought hard for the last three years. When she got the news that it had returned last year, she decided she was done and was ready to see her husband again. She told us not to worry about her that she would be fine. It hit Jacob really hard and he was in a dark place for along time before came out of it. He blamed a lot of people and tried to push me away. I made him see that a lot of people were depending on him and that his family needed him. I told him that his son was already losing a grandmother and he didn't need to lose his dad too. He needed to know his daughter too. That night he broke down and cried for a long time before he feel asleep exhausted. It took him a while before he came to terms with it fully. He lost it again when his mom passed away but didn't let it take him this time. He seems to get better everyday and today he seemed like himself again.
"Isn't it time to get ready?" He asks.
I look at my watch and shake my head.
John, come on in. It's time for us to get ready to go!"
"Just a few more minutes, mom!" He whines from the backyard and I see him push that bottom lip out.
"You know we have to get going soon. Don't make me send your father after you."
"MOM!"
"Listen to your mother, son!" Jacob calls from behind me.
He throws his rope down and starts to stomp inside.
"Don't leave your things in the yard! You know better!" Jacob says before I could utter a word.
He turns around and snatches up his rope and toy and stops into the house. I meet him at the door and walk behind him as he heads to his room. I help him get his bath ready and Jacob comes in behind us.
"Go, get ready. I can take care of the boy."
"Thank you, love."
He helps me stand up and pats my bottom as I head off to our room as he helps John get ready. I head into our room and finish getting ready.  As I sit in my chair in front of the mirror to finish my hair and makeup, Jacob comes walking in in his tuxedo.

"Wow, you look so handsome, cowboy!" I say as I look at him through the mirror.

"Thank you, you look beautiful too." he walks over to me and places a kiss to my cheek.

"I will be downstairs with John waiting for you. Can't leave him alone too long or he will be trying to rope something. I swear that boy was born with a rope in his hand. If he keeps going he is going to beat his old man in competition."

"I hate to think of that day. It worries me enough to see you out there, but my baby boy is another story."

"You won't be able to stop him."

"I know, but I can at least slow him down for a while."

"I'll see you downstairs, love." He kisses my cheek and heads downstairs with the boy. I finish up my make up and slowly head down the stairs to my boys. They are both waiting at the bottom of the stairs and look up to see me.
