30. An Awkward Meeting
"Where are you taking me?" I asked, giggling a little as I stumbled over a rock. One of Allen's hands was covering my eyes while his other hand was slowly tugging my hand along, guiding me to wherever he was taking me. The hand on my back was also holding onto a basket so I had a feeling we were going to be on a picnic.
"For the third time, Mar, it's a surprise! Just wait!" he exclaimed.
"Okay, fine," I grumbled, smoothing over my sundress. The weather was perfect - 70 degrees, slightly windy, and perfectly sunny.
"Here we are," he said, uncovering my eyes.
We were at a beautiful park that overlooked a lake. There were small lush hills and beautiful greenery surrounding us. Allen took my hand and led me over to an area that was right next to the lake. We sat down, and he pulled out the picnic basket from behind my back.
"I thought today would be a perfect day for a picnic so here we are," he said, sounding very self satisfied with the way his plan had worked out.
"On a Wednesday afternoon?" I asked, rolling my eyes.
"We got early dismissal. It's not like we're missing school or anything. And as a bonus, we got off before lunch time. Am I a great boyfriend or what?" he asked with a wink.
I grinned. "You are a great boyfriend. Now what did you bring?" I reached over and pawed through the picnic basket, laughing once I was done. "Peanut butter sandwiches?" I asked in mock excitement. "Allen, this must have taken you forever!"
Allen rolled his eyes. "Oh, shut up, Mariela. You are not getting the Great American Cookie or the Crave Cupcake I bought you now."
"What?" I gasped, grabbing the basket out of his hand. I smiled involuntarily as I saw the cookie and cupcake. "No, I need this," I said, shaking my head vigorously when he tried to pull the basket away.
"Oh, too bad. Should've thought about that before," Allen said, shrugging carelessly. I pouted, and Allen smirked in amusement. "Maybe a kiss will change my mind, though."
I laughed and raised my eyebrows. "Of course it would." I leaned in and kissed Allen's cheek, making him protest.
"That wasn't a kiss!"
"Yeah, it was," I said, nodding complacently. "Now hand me my food, fool!"
Allen muttered something about being abused but handed me the basket anyway. "You are so pushy," he complained, making me giggle.
"I wear the pants in this relationship," I declared imperiously.
He raised an eyebrow. "Oh, hell no, honey. You most definitely do not wear the pants in this relationship."
"Yes, I do."
Allen crept closer to me until he was sitting a little too close. I opened my mouth to say something to him but before I could say anything, he smashed his lips onto mine, stunning me speechless. I responded back immediately and he pulled back too quickly. "If you say I wear the pants in this relationship, I'll kiss you like that again."
My eyes fluttered open, and it took me a second to catch my breath. "Allen, you definitely wear the pants in this relationship," I said breathlessly, a huge smile spreading across my face.
