Epilogue
"Vroooom, vrooom, vroom-"
"Andrew!" I yelled, leaping over the couch in hopes of being able to grab the kid successfully. He laughed at my pathetic attempt to catch up to him and raced by me even faster, tossing his toy airplane in the air every now and then. His dirty blonde hair was sticking up in every direction and his light brown eyes were sparkling mischievously. He was almost a complete carbon copy of Allen and I couldn't be happier.
Yet, more pressing things took precedent over my little child's looks. I couldn't understand how a kid who barely had any legs could outrun me already. He was definitely going to be a track kid in the future.
Suddenly Andrew was enveloped into someone's arms and tossed into the air. I shook my head at Allen, but the huge smile on my face told him I wasn't mad at him for buying that overly expensive gift for my spoiled child. Allen's deep green eyes sparkled as he winked at me. I tried to pretend like that alone didn't make my knees feel weak or make me want to run over and kiss him straight on.
"This boy is acting even worse than usual," I said with a groan after I got over how amazingly gorgeous my husband was. "I've been chasing him around for about ten minutes now."
"Aw, give the kid a break, Mar. He's only 4," Allen said, ruffling Andrew's hair.
Andrew smiled angelically at me. "Yeah, mommy! I'm onwy four," he said, purposely pronouncing the word only wrong.
"You're the one that spoils him," I accused Allen, rolling my eyes.
Allen laughed, but before he could reply, an irritated Aiden stormed in. He raked a hand through his dark brown hair, an action that he'd inherited from Allen.
"What's wrong, Aiden?" I asked.
His troubled deep green eyes met mine and he sighed. "It's kind of complicated. You know how Nina and I were going to get married yesterday?"
I giggled. "Another conquest already?"
"Yeah, well, her mom was against our marriage so we're going to have to go all Romeo and Juliet and elope."
Allen started to laugh. "Oh, this one is just like me, Mariela."
I shook my head in disapproval at my idiotic husband. "Aiden, when are you going to learn? You tried to marry Susan last week and Jill the week before. Why are you already such a player?"
Aiden looked confused. "What's a player?"
I shared a look with Allen and we started to laugh together. "You know, one who likes to play a game," I said, trying to give him the most PG definition.
Aiden shrugged. "Well, anyway, this love thing is really hard. Nina said we could get married tomorrow at school without her parents knowing. So I might need a ring."
I sighed. "Aiden, you're only 7. No need to get married so early."
"When did you marry Dad?" Aiden asked, looking deep in thought.
"When I was 22," I said. Aiden's completely shocked face made me laugh hard. He couldn't seem to understand that 22 was actually a pretty young age to get married.
The doorbell rang and moments later, Riya was bounding in, holding Nina's hand. "Mariela, your son is already making moves on my girl. You need to control your child."
I smiled at her. Riya was 30 like me, but she still looked like she was in her early 20's. "Hey, I can't help it. This one went after Allen."
Riya cracked a grin. Nina walked over to Aiden and Aiden leaned down to kiss her cheek. My mouth dropped and I gave Aiden a warning look. If he was already past the stage of holding hands, who knew what he'd been doing when he was just 12...
