9. So Close But So Far Away
I was awakened Monday morning by my brother, who thought it would be funny to wake me up by pushing me off the bed.
"Alex, I am going to kill you!" I yelled, groaning on the floor.
Alex grinned at me. "You think you're stronger than me. That's cute."
"I'll show you strong," I muttered and jumped on top of him. We wrestled fiercely, but I gave up after 5 minutes. That boy was stronger than me.
"Ha! I win!" My brother smirked at me.
I glared at him. "Shut up! I used to be stronger than you!"
"Not anymore, sis. Those days are over," Alex said, still smirking.
"Whatever," I grumbled, pushing him away. "Get out so I can get ready."
I stopped in my tracks, noticing something weird.
"Alex, why are you dressed all nice? And are you wearing new cologne?!"
"Um...no reason," Alex said, looking away quickly.
I grinned knowingly at him. "Does someone have a little crush?" I teased, pinching his cheek. He swatted my hand away, though I noticed he was slightly blushing.
"No!" he cried, glaring at me. "I just felt like it."
"Okay," I said sarcastically, rolling my eyes, but letting it go. Alex gave me a look and left my room. I got ready for school and walked downstairs, my hair still damp from my shower.
A delicious smell hit my nose as I rushed into the kitchen. My brother handed me an omelette and toast.
"Where's Mom?" I asked, trying the omelette.
"She left for work early today. She left a note."
"This is so good!" I cried after taking a bite of the omelette. "Where did you learn how to cook this?"
"From watching Mom," Alex said, shrugging.
I rolled my eyes at his vague answer, but couldn't help but admire his talent. "Nice!"
We ate quietly for a couple of minutes when suddenly a thought struck me. "Oh my gosh! How are we going to get to school? My car won't be back until later today!"
"Oh, I forgot to tell you. Your car came back early. It's in the garage."
I smiled. "Great! Ready to go?"
Alex nodded. We grabbed our backpacks and lunches and left.
"My baby is back!" I crooned, happy to see my car again. I drove a white Infiniti FX 35 and loved it to death!
My brother laughed and called me a loser. I gave him a pointed look. "You're just jealous you don't have a car yet."
"Whatever. Give me another year. I'm not even 16 yet."
I smirked at him. "I got my car when I was 15."
He sighed. "Shut up."
I dropped my brother off to his school and rushed to school. I was almost late. I sprinted into the high school building, my backpack slipping off my shoulders. I relaxed once I stepped inside the building and checked my phone - 7:45 exactly.
"Oh yeah!" I said, doing a happy dance. "I rock!"
"Nice," I heard a voice say from behind me. I blushed in embarrassment and turned around.
"Did you see my dance?" I asked Drew, still blushing. Darn my stupid cheeks!
"Yeah, I did. It was cute," he said, making me blush harder.
