11. The Dare

EMMA'S POV

(1st period)

I know I'm not going to win the bet unless I do some planning. Mariela is not going to win the bet that easy. I racked my brain for some way to prevent Drew from talking to her. It took me 20 minutes, but it was worth it. Mrs. Jones had to leave because her daughter got into an accident, and the timing could not have been any better.

"Gia!" I yelled, forcing tears to fall down my cheeks.

"Oh my gosh! Emma! What's wrong?!" Gia asked, her loud voice attracting the rest of the popular gang to my table.

"OMG!"s filled the air as my girls rushed to find out what was wrong. I knew these girls couldn't care less; they just needed to get their fill of the gossip.

I started sobbing.

"Emma, please tell us what happened!" Sasha exclaimed, grabbing my arm.

"I -I- I---" I stuttered, but what was interrupted by Lila.

"Emma, just breathe. You can tell us after you stop crying. Come on. Stop," Lila commanded, pretending to actually care.

I stopped sobbing, but kept forcing tears out. "Guys, so you know how I like Drew, right?"

The girls nodded, not wanting me to stop.

"Well, I am never going to get him!' I started sobbing again.

"Yes you are, Emma. We're going to help you get him, but...what happened all of a sudden?" I could hear the curiousity burning in Mina's voice. Mina was probably the one of the three girls in my group who actually cared about what was wrong.

"Mar-Mar-Mariela is going to steal him from me!"

The girls stared at me in shock. "But Mariela doesn't even like Drew," Sasha said.

"I know! She just doesn't want me to get him! She's got it all planned out," I put my head on my desk and sobbed louder. Other people in the class started staring at me. I toned it down a bit.

"That two-faced, stuck up bitch!!" Sasha exclaimed. "I can't believe she would do that!"

Lila looked doubtful. "But Emma, Mariela is your friend. She wouldn't do that to you. Plus, she's really nice. I don't think she's even capable of doing that."

I glared at her through my tears. "Who's side are you on, Lila!? You think I'm lying!? That I like creating a scene?!"

Lila looked scared. She was probably afraid of getting kicked out of the group. "Oh, no," she backtracked with an "earnest" face, "I don't know what I was thinking! It's just so hard to believe!"

"Shut up, Lila," Jane started, trying to stay on my good side. "Didn't you see Drew try to kiss Mariela outside the gym that day?"

"Ohh yeahh! Mariela is so mean! How did she trap him anyway?" Lila asked. "None of us have been able to get him to even glance at us!" I glared at her. "Haha....before we found out you liked him."

Suzy frowned. "So what should we do?"

I pretended to think, wiping up my tears. "I got it."

All 8 girls looked at me expectantly.

"We are going to stop that bitch."

The girls all leaned in, eager to hear my plan. Those girls are so sadistic; I bet they would hurt Mariela even if I didn't have a good reason.

"Girls, it's time to tell Drew a small white lie that'll make him really mad at Mariela."

"What lie? What could possibly hurt those two's friendship?" Gia asked.
