31. A Surprise at Every Turn

I rushed to school from the parking lot as I realized I had exactly one minute to get inside the building before I was late. Usually, I couldn't care less, but if I got one more tardy slip, Madame Chateau had promised that I would have to clean the microwave and fridge. No thanks!

My feet barely touched the inside of homeroom when the bell rang. I grinned in success and tried not to smirk at Madame Chateau's disappointed face. It seemed like she would have to clean the microwave and fridge up by herself.

I hurriedly sat down at my desk as Madame Chateau sent me a frown. The announcements started to play on the intercom, reminding all of us that we only had a week to go to purchase our prom tickets before they would become more expensive.

I yawned and put my head into my arms as Tiffany began to yell into the intercom to the guys about asking their girls to prom now since we had to buy our dress, do our nails, and blah blah blah.

Finally the annoucements were over and I waited for Madame Chateau to dismiss us as usual, but she just sat there and waited. I started to share questioning glances with my friends, but they shrugged back at me in confusion.

Suddenly, Allen was standing in front of me with a guitar in his hand and ten guys behind him.

I glanced at Madame Chateau and became even more confused when I saw her smiling at me. That woman never smiled, especially not at me, so I was getting a little creeped out.

The girls in my class were staring at me in jealousy, but they're wistful faces weren't too hostile. I had absolutely no idea what the hell Allen was doing, but the girls in my class seemed to have some clue.

I decided to ask Allen what he was doing but before I could open my mouth to say anything, he smiled at me and started to strum his guitar and sing.

I covered my mouth in exteme shock and happiness as I realized what song he was seranading me with in front of all the girls in my class.

"I don't want another pretty face

I don't want just anyone to hold

I don't want my love to go to waste

I want you and your beautiful soul

You're the one I want to chase

You're the one I want to hold

I won't let another minute go to waste

I want you and your beautfiul soul."

My heart flew and swelled with happiness as he finished the song up. The guys behind him sang the chorus with him and harmonized with him during random parts of the song. He'd sung the song we'd danced to at the dance and it couldn't have been more perfect.

Once he was done, he slowly walked toward me and took one of my hands in his own hands. It was a good thing I was already sitting down otherwise I just might have collapsed.

"Mariela, you've changed my life, and I love you so much. You mean the world to me and if you want, I'll even let you pretend like you wear the pants in this relationship." He winked at me and I giggled at the memory. "Ms. Arellano, will you go to this year's Prom with me?" His earnest eyes searched my own and I practically yelled "yes!" before flinging myself into his arms, bumping my desk to the side in the process.

Allen laughed as the intensity of my hug knocked him back a couple of steps. The girls around me sighed longingly and watched Allen and me jealously. I glanced back at Riya, who could barely contain her smile, and grinned back at her.
