"So that camping trip was pretty fun right?" Cassie winked.
We had gotten back a few days ago and I hadn't seen much of Jason or skylar.
Cassie and I were laying beside her pool, tanning. The sun was shining so brightly so it was the perfect day for it.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked, propping up onto my elbows. I knew Cassie was thinking something.
"Well, I'm just saying that you skylar seemed pretty cosy together. Do you think you'll start anything with him?" she smiled excitedly, sitting up too face me.
It took me a few seconds before I could answer her. "Mhhmm.. No, I dont think so..." I trailed off.
"Awh, why not?" Cassie cried out.
Because I think your boyfriend likes me and I might like him back. "Not my type." was all I could say.
"What? He could be anybody's type!" Cassie screeched.
"then why don't you go out with him?" I asked sarcastically.
"No, I love Jason. We're absolutely perfect together." she smiled.
I felt my heart break into a million, tiny, little pieces. Hearing my best friend say that about her boyfriend whom I think I may like was devastating to hear. I didn't want her to get hurt, because I couldn't bare losing her.
"Jess?" Cassie laughed, breaking me from my thoughts.
"Mhhm, what?"
"what are you thinking about?" she asked confused.
"Just how awesome the weather is today!" I cheer.
Cassie smiles and I turn over to lay on my back. I close my eyes, face looking up at the sun. Soaking in the warm rays that the sun has to offer, I can feel my body heating up.
I try to block out everything that's running through my mind but there's one name, one person, one thing that keeps repeating itself over and over again.
Jason.
My eyes shoot open. "I have to go Cass." I say, jumping up and collecting all my belongings.
"Awh, I thought we could have a sleepover?" Cassie cries.
"Maybe another time." I shake my head.
"Okay, bye." Cassie says stubbornly.
"Sorry." I mutter and walk off, down the road towards my house.
There are a few kids, playing in the street. Staring at me, I look down and realize that I'm still in my bikini and I start getting self conscious. I hate it when people stare.
Finally, I arrive home.
"Honey, you're home so early?" my mom greets.
"Yeah, Cassie had to go somewhere." I lie.
"What a shame, would you like some lunch?" she offers.
"no thanks, I'll get something later." I smile.
Leaving my mom in the kitchen, I walk up the stairs and into my room. I shut the door and drop all my things on the floor.
I walk over towards my wardrobe and throw on a polka dot dress. Simple.
I turn around, the back of my body facing my bed and drop down. Head hitting the soft, feather, filled pillow and close my eyes.
~.~
"Jess. Wake up." I hear my mothers stern voice.
"Mhhm... What?" I yawn, slowly opening my eyes.
"There is a very... Nice, looking boy waiting for you downstairs." my mother smiles.
I quickly sit up. Jason?
"Who?" I question.
"I didn't get his name..." my mom mutters.
I roll my eyes and quickly get out of bed, I rub the sleep out of my eyes and walk out of my room and down the stairs.
I see him, waiting patiently by the doorway. He turns around to face me.
Skylar?
"What are you doing here?" I ask, confused.
"I wanted to know if you wanted to go out to dinner." he admits.
"It's abit late, don't you think?" I say, hesitantly.
"Jess, it's only 6:30." he laughs.
I feel my cheeks starting to burn up.
"Oh, umm... I'll just go up and get my things!" I say, startled.
I decide to leave the polka dot dress on my I take it off because I'm still wearing my bathing suit underneath, so I put some matching underwear on and put the dress back on, I put on a pair of black chucks and tie my hair up.
~.~
Skylar and I walked to the pier where there were many different restaurants to choose from. We decided that we would get pizza and went to an Italian restaurant called 'Lorenzo's'.
"What can I get you to order?" the italian waiter asked.
I looked up from the menu, "A pepperoni pizza and a coke." I smiled.
"I'll have the same and could we have garlic bread?" skylar smirked, looking over at me.
The waiter wrote down our orders and took the menus away.
I was the first to say something.
"I still don't get why you asked me out to dinner?" I questioned, pointing a long finger at him.
"I was hungry." he threw his hands up in defense.
"Yeah, well you could have asked any other girl, besides me." I stated, folding my arms over my chest.
"But you're not like any other girls." he winked.
I was thrown back. I couldn't tell if he was serious about what he had just said or if he was trying to flirt with me. I didn't say anything.
Skylar's POV
"You know that the only reason I'm in this stupid town is because my parents are sick of my , causing trouble in Massachusetts." I frowned, looking across the table at Jess.
"What sort of trouble?" she raised an eyebrow.
"You know... Smoking, drinking, vandalism... That sort of trouble." I muttered, I didn't want her to get caught up with the mess I've made.
"Oh yeah, I get it. You didn't choose the thug life, the thug life chose you?" she laughed.
"Exactly." I smirked.
"I also came here for something else." I stated.
Jess cocked her head to the side, "What?" she crossed her eyes.
"Well, Jason's sister. Melissa. My other cousin. She's getting married and her wedding is in two weeks."
"and you wanted me to help you choose the perfect suit?" she joked.
"Well, yeah there's that and I wanted to know if you'd like to go with me? As a... Date..." I trailed off.
"Sure.." she smiled.
Jess's POV
"Sure.." the words trailed right out of my mouth. I wasn't even sure if I wanted too go with him? But I can't take it back now.
Maybe this will help me get over my 'crush' on Jason.
