My Best Friends Boyfriend

Chapter 14

The sun had finally set and now all the stars in the sky were shining brightly.

Jason was lying down on the blanket, facing the sky and I lay down too, resting my head on his stomach. My head slowly went up and down as he breathed in and out.

"It's so peaceful out here." He said, softly stroking my hair.
"Yes." I agree smiling up at the sky.

The stars are shining down so brightly, "you're so beautiful, Jess." Jason whispers and pulls me up so that I am now wrapped in his arms and we both lay facing each other now.

We begin to kiss again. Could this day be anymore perfect? I think.


"Thank you for such a lovely evening." I smile at Jason as we stand behind in front of my front door.

"That's alright." He smiles back at me, we quickly hug each other and he kisses my forehead before we say goodbye and I go inside.

"Look, it's 11 right on the dot." I hear my father say as I step inside.

"If I didn't know better I'd say Jason is trying to get on my good side." He jokes.

"You know you like him daddy." I say giving him a hug to say hello.

"As long as he makes you happy then I'm okay with it." My father smiles rubbing the top of my hair.

I head up the stairs towards my room and the whole night begins to replay in my head. It was absolutely perfect I think.

I get changed into some pyjamas and lay down in bed, before I know it I drift off into a deep sleep.


The next morning I wake up to the sun shining through my curtains. I check my phone and I have a message so I open it.

'Hey, I have work today but I finish at 4 so maybe we can hang out after? Jason xx.'

I smile and send him a quick reply saying that I will meet him at his work later.

I go downstairs and quickly eat a bowl of cereal before I go back up to take a shower and get changed.

I throw on a pair of denim shorts and a black tank top. I tie my hair in a loose pony tail and put on some flip flops before heading out the door. It's only 2pm right now but I can just hang around the beach for a while before meeting up with Jason, I think.


When I get to the beach the sun is beating down onto the water which make it look crystal clear. I dig my toes into the warm sand and sit down in a spot close to the water.

"Hey, Jess!" I hear a familiar voice.
I turn around and can see Skylar walking towards me. He looks different because he's not dressed in his usual dark jeans, shirt and boots. Instead he's wearing a pair of khaki shorts and a red checkered flannelette shirt. He looks good.

"Hey." I smile as he takes a seat next to me.
"How are you? We haven't seen each other in a while."
"Yea, I'm good." I respond looking out at the ocean.
"What are you doing out here by yourself?" He continues to question me.
"Just waiting for my friend.." I mutter.
"Oh your boyfriend?" He smirks and this annoys me because he's being nosey.
"Yes." I snap.

He is silent after that.

A few minutes later he begins.

"So when can I meet him?" Skylar laughs.
"Never."
"Aw c'mon Jess. I need to see if this boy is right for you." He says trying to sound protective.
"He is thank you very much." I huff.
"Well I still want to meet him." Skylar states.
"Well you're not going to. No one is going to meet him yet. Okay? Our relationship is still very new with a lot of complications." I say throwing my hands in he air and then looking up into skylars blue eyes.
"Well if he ever hurts you then you tell me okay? I'm here for you Jess and as much as it kills me to know that you're with another guy I'm still here for you." Skylar smiles, placing his arm around my shoulder.

Wow. That was probably one of the sweetest thing that he has ever said to me. Even though we have only known each other for a month I can tell that he really likes me.

"Thank you Skylar." I say putting my head on his shoulder.
I feel my phone buzz and take it out, there is a text and I read it.

'I got held up at work so I can't hang. See you around. Jason.'

Damn I was really looking forward to seeing him. Why is he being an ass through text though?

'Okay.. Is something up though?-Jess xx.' I reply.

I don't receive a reply after 10 minutes and put my phone back in my pocket. What's up with him I think.

I sigh and hear someone cough... I forgot that Skylar was with me and I am still resting my head on his shoulder.

"I gotta go now." I say getting up.
Skylar gets up as well, "you going to meet up with your boyfriend?" He asks me.
"Nah. He's held up at work." I say.
"What are you going to do then?"
"I'm just going to go home." I confess. I'm pretty upset that Jason can't hang and that he was being an ass in the text he sent me before.
"I will walk you home?" Skylar offers.
"Sure.." I give him a weak smile and we begin walking to my house.
