I wake up the next morning lying in Cassie's bed with a hangover from hell.
I start remembering what happened last night; the shopping, dinner, meeting Cole and going to the club, dancing, getting drunk and drunk dialling Jason. I can't believe I called him!
"I have breakfast." Cassie says snapping me out of my thoughts. I look up to face Cassie who is holding a tray filled with pancakes. Yum, just what I need.
After breakfast we get ready and
decide to head out to the beach for some fresh air.
We lay our towels out on the soft sand. I take off my yellow sun dress and lay out on the towel and begin to tan, Cassie does the same.
"My head is still throbbing from last night." I groan and roll over to face Cassie after a few minutes.
"I had such an amazing night." Cassie smiles at me, I'm happy for her that she could finally forget about Jason for one night.
"Do you think you'll see Cole again?" I question, leaning my head against my arm.
"Yea, he texted me this morning asking if we were okay and he said he wants to see me again before the summer is over."
"Why didn't you tell me this before?" I am excited for my best friend.
"Because, I still love Jason. I know if we ever got back together things would never be the same. He doesn't love me anymore, Jess." She chokes, biting down on her trembling lip.
"Any guy would be lucky to have you." I reassure her.
"Hey you guys! Long time no see." We hear a perky voice from behind us. I sit up and Lacey, a girl in the same year as, sits down next to us.
"Hey." Cassie and I both say in sync.
"What have you girls been up to?" The bubbly red head beams. She is way too happy for me to deal with.
"We've just been hanging around." Cassie answers her question.
"I heard you and Jason broke up!" Lacey shoots another question, I almost answer but then I realise this question is only for Cassie. Nobody knows of the secret relationship Jason and I shared just only a week ago before I went and ruined it.
"Yeah we did." Cassie states.
"What happened?" Lacey presses for more information, Cassie and I both know that she is just being nosey.
"Nothing you need to be worried about. What do you want anyways?" Cassie asks in an annoyed tone. That's what you deserve for being nosey, Lacey, I say in my head and smile.
"I just wanted to see how you girls were. I'm also having a party tonight so I wanted to personally invite the two of you." She smiles obviously not offended by Cassie's rudeness towards her. Ugh no more parties I think.
"We will think about it." Cassie says before Lacey says goodbye and leaves.
Cassie looks over at me, "Should we go?" She asks.
"If you want." I say, I have an uneasy feeling in my stomach that something bad might happen.
Cassie and I are just putting the finishing touches of our make up on before we get dressed and leave for the party. "How do I look?" Cassie asks as she turns to show me the smoky eye she has just done on herself.
"Good." I mutter, swiping some lipgloss across my lips.
Once I'm done I change into a pair of denim cutoff shorts and a loose accented white top and a pair of black converse. Cassie changes into a short black skirt and matching top with black heels to make her look taller. We both leave our hair out in soft curls.
We stand looking into the mirror, I feel so plain standing next to her. I really haven't been coping well this past week.
About an hour later we arrive at Lacey's house party. Her house is big, it's more like a mansion than a house.. I guess those are one of the perks of being rich.
Once we are inside I spot a few people from our year that we used to sit with, well Cassie sat with them, I just tagged along.
I see a table filled with food and drinks so I grab myself a red plastic cup and begin to poor in some coke. I will definitely not be drinking tonight after what happened last night. I made a complete fool over myself and I am so mortified and upset. I've probably confused Jason just as much as I've confused myself.
The next few hours go by really slowly and I find myself wanting to leave so I go and look for Cassie.
"Hey, have you seen Cassie anywhere around?" I ask a big guy called Dave who is talking to a couple of girls from the year below us.
"Nah sorry." He says turning his attention back to the younger girls.
I give him a small smile and walk off in another direction to go and find her.
I hear a bunch of people cheering outside so I follow the crowds voices. When I get outside there is a group of people surrounding the bar which is located outside. I see a brunette in a tight dress standing on top of the bench and I know it's definitely Cassie.
I push past the crowd of horny boys until I get to the front. The music is playing very loudly and Cassie begins swaying her hips from side to side in time with the music. Oh no. "Cassie get down!" I scold her as I near the front.
Cassie laughs and shakes her head, "Come dance with me, Jess." She giggles and I hear a few cheers for me to get up on the bench and dance with her.
"No." I say and feel my cheeks burning from embarrassment. I throw my arms out in front of me and try to grab her legs but she moves and I end up hugging myself.
"Cassie just come down before you do something you'll regret." I warn her but she doesn't listen. Instead this drunken Cassie begins pulling up her top which is about halfway up her body before the music turns off and she stops.
I hear everyone around me groan in frustration and people start to clear away from the bench where Cassie had been dancing.
I turn away from Cassie who is still on the bench, frowning, and go thank the person who turned off the music.
I go inside to find the person who turned the music off to thank them.
There is someone leaning down next to the stereo system.
"Hey, I just wanted to thank you for doing that!" I greet them. The person turns around to face me.
Oh shit.
"It's okay." Jason says, his voice is weak.
I take a moment to look at Jason who does not look very well; his hair is messy, he has bags under his eyes and his chin is growing stubble.
"Jason." I take a sharp intake of breath.
I can't believe I've done this to him. He doesn't look like the beautiful Jason I had been secretly dating for the past month.
"Jess." He says sharply.
"How have you been?" I mentally slap myself for asking him that. How the hell do you think he's been? I yell at myself.
"Fine." He says, "Can we talk?"
"Um, I don't think that's a very good idea." I mutter not looking at him.
"Please, Jess." He begs, liquor from his breath blows onto my face. I look up into his grey eyes. They don't have that same sparkle that used to be there.
"Not right now. Maybe tomorrow when you're sober?" I offer and he gives me a small nod.
"I will text you." He says before pulling me in for a hug. What is he doing? Hugging me out in the open where anyone can see, especially Cassie, but she's so drunk she won't be able to remember anything so I am not worried about her right now.
I wrap my arms around Jason's neck and he leans his head into the crook of my neck.
Before pulling away I hear Jason whisper, "I miss you so much." I miss you too is what I want to say but I'm too afraid.
I leave Jason and go back to Cassie who is sitting on the bench of the outdoor bar with her head resting upon her hands which are propped up onto her knees.
"I have a massive headache." She groans, looking at me.
"Wanna go home?" I offer, she nods her head very slowly, careful not to make her headache worse than it is.
I help her off the bench and wrap an arm around her waist whilst she puts an arm around my neck to keep her supported while we walk back to the car.
Cassie and I arrive at her house a few minutes later after leaving the party. She can hardly stand so I have to help her out of the car and up her driveway towards the house.
Luckily her parents are out so I take Cassie up to her room and put her in bed. Before leaving I place a glass of water next to her bed so she can have some when she wakes up in the morning.
I arrive home a few minutes later, my parents are asleep so I go straight to bed.
