"Cassie?" I gasp covering my mouth with my hand. I can't believe she is here... Standing right in front of me.
"Wow. What a way to greet your best friend!" Cassie laughs walking towards me.
"Why didn't you tell me you were back?" I say, I am still very shocked to see her. I've been too involved in my relationship with Jason and I've forgotten about poor old Cass... My best friend.
"I wanted to surprise you!" She smiles bringing me in for a hug.
We pull away and I quickly smile at her, "whoa.. Jess don't smile like that... It's sort of creepy." She laughs wrapping an arm around my shoulder and I just laugh.
"What are you doing out here anyways?" She asks as we begin to walk.
"I was going to get some lunch." I answer truthfully, oh and go see my new boyfriend whom is your ex, I leave that part out.
"I'm pretty hungry now that I come to think of it." She laughs, "where are we going?"
"The Wave?" I ask.
"Yeah sure.." She stops, "Jason works there." She finishes.
I make an O shape with my mouth and look at her as tears begin to form in her eyes. "We can go somewhere else." I offer but she shakes her head.
"No.. No, I haven't seen him in 3 weeks.. I have to face him and show him that I'm strong and I have my best friend by my side to face him with me." She laughs as we walk up the stairs towards the entrance of 'The Wave.'
I go in first and see if I can spot Jason but he's nowhere to be found.
Cassie and I take a seat at an empty booth and look at the menus.
"So how have you been?" She smiles.
"I've been really great, how about you?" I respond.
Cassie raises a perfectly arched eyebrow at me. "Who's the boy?" She smirks.
Oh shit.
"There's no boy Cass." I laugh nervously and begin freaking out on the inside.
"Sure there isn't. C'mon Jess.. I'm your best friend! I know you better than anyone else." She smiles so sweetly at me and I begin to feel sick.
I can't believe what I have done whilst she was away.
I turn my focus away from her and look out the window. "What's up babe?" She asks placing her hand on top of mine. I don't know how to respond.
"Can I take your oder ladies?" A familiar voice interrupts us.
I quickly turn and I'm looking into his grey eyes, he looks very shocked. Just as shocked as I was 20 minutes ago.. He looks caught of guard as he glances at Cassie.
"I will just get the chicken salad." She says cooly. He quickly scribbles it in his notepad and looks at me, "umm.. I don't know what I want yet." I say, my voice shaky and dry.
Jason nods and walks away.
I feel like someone just ran over me with a truck.
Cassie turns and looks at me, "He's an asshole." She states, glancing at her fingernails.
I nod and begin reading my menu.. "I will just go tell him what I want." I say after I've decided.
"No he can just come back here." Cassie states but I ignore her and get up from my seat.
I walk to the back of the restaurant and I feel my knees shaking. I spot Jason clearing a table and I walk towards him.
"I had no idea that she was going to be back today!" I quickly say.
He looks up at me, "It's okay." He sighs.
"No it's not.. I'm sorry you were caught off guard, I should have taken her somewhere else.. I was just walking and then she called my name out and it all just happened so fast." I speak very quickly and feel so stupid. Jason just stares at me.
"It's fine, Jess." He says kissing my forehead to shut me up and I look back to see if Cassie can spot us but she can't.
"I just wasn't expecting her to be back so soon.. I just wanted more time with you before the sneaking around time had to come." Jason admits. I nod my head in agreement.
"I better get back before she comes gets suspicious." I say quietly and walk away from him.
"What took you so long?" Cassie laughs as I take my seat back across from her.
"I needed to go to the bathroom." I lie and quickly take in a deep breath before letting it out, trying to calm myself down.
"So what do you end up ordering?" She asks.
Oh crap. I forgot!
"Uhh.. Uhh." I say.
Then I notice Jason approaching and he places the chicken salad in front of Cassie and a bowl of pasta in front of me.
I smile at him, thanking him and he doesn't smile back. He just walks away from our table and I immediately start to feel hurt but I understand that we can't show any emotion toward each other without getting caught out... Especially in front of Cassie.
After our meal, which Cassie offers to pay for, we walk along the boardwalk and do a bit of shopping.
I end up buying a new pair of shorts and some sunglasses and Cassie gets a skirt and new shoes.
"So do you want to have a sleepover tonight?" Cassie smiles as we begin walking home.
"I can't tonight sorry.." I mutter. I need to call Jason.
"Next time." Cassie states and I nod in agreement.
I arrive home to my dad cooking dinner, "hey sweetie!" He exclaims as I walk past him.
"Hey dad." I smile at him as I begin walking towards my room.
"Did you see Cassie today?" He asks and I stop.
"What?"
"Cassie came by earlier asking for you but I said you were seeing your new boyfriend." He smiles and turns away to fry something.
"You what?! Why did you tell her that dad?!" I ask stomping my feet. I am beyond angry.
"I'm sorry, didn't know it was a big secret."he defends himself.
"Did you tell her his name?!" I keep yelling at him.
"No, she didn't ask. She just said she would get it out of you." He says looking worried, "what's the matter Jess?" He walks towards me, pulling me in for a hug and I begin to cry. I have no idea why I'm crying and I feel silly.
"I.. I just.. I can't talk about it." I sniff and begin wiping my tears.
"Sorry for yelling at you." I apologise to my father who looks very concerned.
"It's fine sweetie." He replies and I begin walking away from him towards my room.
Once I'm in my room I begin to dial his number.
"Hello?" Jason answers.
"Hi." I croak.
"Jess, is she still with you?"
"No, I need you to come over though." I respond.
"I'll be there soon." He ends the call and I wait for him to arrive.
