"Brynlee!"
Maisy squatted down and peered at the ground, poking at a small object sitting on the pavement near their playground.
"What?" Brynlee came over carrying a small rock because of how pretty it looked. It had a little streak through it where it was just crystal.
Brynlee bent down next to Maisy to see what she was looking at. "Ooh, a cat-a-pillar!"
Maisy was trying to get it to crawl on her finger. "I wanna take it home!"
"You're gonna be it's momma?" Brynlee gasped and then stood up. "I have a box for him!" Out of nowhere, she pulled out a small little glasses case and picked up a couple leaves to put in it.
"Let's call him...Lucky!" Maisy proudly smiled down at this little caterpillar that is now her adopted child.

"How was school today, Mais?" Miles and Amber decided to try and make a 'fancy' dinner all by themselves so they were all over the kitchen.
Maisy was sitting at the island, watching them bump into each other trying to prepare the food.
"It was good, I'm a momma now!" Miles froze and looked back up at Maisy, and Amber put her fist to her mouth to hide her laughter.
"I'm sorry-" Miles didn't even know how to ask his four year old sister what she meant. "Could you repeat that?"
Amber turned around so Maisy couldn't see her cracking up, but between what Maisy said and the face it gave Miles-she couldn't help herself.
"I'm a Momma!" Maisy said it with such excitement, Amber couldn't help but laugh harder, and Miles had a smile on his face-but he still gave her a stern look.
"Maisy..."
"Could you clarify what you meant there?" Maisy gave him a confused look, not knowing these grownup words he used.
"What's clarify?" Miles sighed and put his hand over his face for a second, trying to understand what this child could possibly mean.
"Nevermind, just...who's a momma?" Maisy pointed at herself and smiled, not knowing why Miles was acting the way he was but it was funny to her.
"I'm a Momma!"
Eric was coming down the stairs carrying the glasses case, and went up to Maisy. "Maisy?...what is this?"
Maisy reached over and carefully took the case from Eric's hand. "That's Lucky! Be careful with him." Maisy picked up Lucky out of the case and let him crawl on her hand.
Miles was still staring at Maisy, very confused on what just happened in the past two minutes.
"Lucky?"
"Why would you bring that in the house?"
Eric and Miles' reactions were very different. I'm sure you could guess who said what.
"Because I'm his momma now! He's mine." Maisy placed Lucky back into the case and shut it, setting the glasses case on the counter. Miles quickly picked it back up and handed it to her. "Yeah, no thank you. Go bring that to Beau."
Maisy groaned but took Luckys case to go upstairs, Beau was in his room doing something on his work computer.
"Beauy!" Maisy made sure not to shake the small container, knowing it wouldn't help keep Lucky alive.
