✧・゚: Chapter 24 - Recklessness *:・゚✧
5th of January 1761
I stood stooped over the wooden counters a paring knife in hand, hastily peeling the potatoes, and handing them to George who stood close to my left, humming to himself as he chopped up the peeled potatoes, placing them in a large pot of water sat next to him.
The sound of Aoibhinn bustling around the kitchen behind us filled my ears, as she paced about gathering a large pot and preparing ingredients for a stew, to provide us easy food for the next few days at least.
I hissed faintly as the blade of the paring knife barely nicked my skin, a small amount of bright red blood seeping out. I hastily wiped the blood away on my apron before George could notice.
Despite this, I felt George watching me out of the corner of his eyes, however he said nothing.
I sighed slightly, returning to the task at hand, as I finished peeling the final potato, letting the skin slip through my fingers and landing on the chopping board. I handed the final potato to George, quickly picking up the chopping board and composting the remaining skins outside.
Walking back into the kitchen, the heat hit my face, as I was greeted by George I stopped in the doorway, noticing the pot of raw potatoes and water in his hands. He gazed at me a slight look of confusion knitting his brows together.
"What do I do now?" He said as his gaze fell to the pot in his hands.
Chuckling slightly, I watched as Aoibhinn rolled her eyes, quickly taking the pot off George, as he furrowed his brows more, pouting his lips slightly.
"But I was going to-" He turned to face Aoibhinn, announcing his discontent.
I took a few steps into the kitchen walking around to stand beside Aoibhinn who had just placed the potatoes on the hob to boil. She moved out of my way as George immediately took his place at my side, as if he couldn't possibly leave me alone.
I jumped slightly as his hand made its way around my waist, pulling me closer into his side.
"George-" I gasped slightly as he turned me to face him, his grip on my waist tightening somewhat, as he pulled me closer again.
"George!" I gasped as I jumped back, from his grip. My blood ran cold as a feeling of anxiousness ran through my veins.
"Watch the potatoes, they need at least 15 minutes." My eyes fell to the ground, as I turned around, fetching a glass from the cabinet to my right and filling it with water, before making my way through the kitchen, through the doorway and into the hall.
King George's POV
I watched in a sense of shock as Y/N's small, timid frame made its way out of the kitchen and into the hallway, her dress moving behind her and quickly disappearing out of sight as she hurried her way up the stairs.
