✧・゚: Chapter 31 - Funeral Arrangements*:・゚✧
12th of January 1761
Y/N's POV
Folds of black fabric draped around me, contrasting with the grey fabric of the sofa I sat on. My hair trailed down my shoulders in its natural curls, a white cap was placed on my head, secured with a black ribbon.
Draped around my shoulders, bringing some modesty to the dress was a white chiffon fabric that tucked under the bodice of the black, silky dress. The sleeves of the dress just came past my elbows, the frilly sleeves of my chemise providing an extra detail.
The room's curtains were drawn, along with the rest of the curtains in the house, the large mirror in the living room had been covered with a large white drape. The room felt eerie and I missed the natural light. I hadn't been allowed to leave the house at all, the horses being taken care by soldiers that were guarding the house, for fear that I may get hurt.
George sat opposite me Samuel to his left, both wearing black clothing, as they were leafing through various documents scattered across the coffee table, whispering amongst themselves.
I stood quickly, turning to a bookshelf on which sat a small cardboard folder. I reached my arm out as I pulled it off the shelf, silently thanking my mother for being so organised.
I sat back down, placing the folder in my lap as I leafed through the pages, pulling out two death certificates.
I placed them down on the coffee table as I continued rifling through the pages until I found a neatly drafted sheet, in my mother's handwriting. I clenched my jaw as I cautiously set the folder to my left on the sofa as I pulled out the stapled pieces of parchment.
"Funeral Wishes."
"Found it." I whispered as George looked up at me from one of the death certificates, I had placed on the table earlier.
"Is this your father?" George whispered holding it up as I nodded, his eyes scanning over the imprinted ink, pasting a light smile on my face.
"Why?" I whispered a George's blue eyes met mine, him handing it to Samuel.
"I'm not sure my love. I think the name just sounded a bit familiar." His gaze met mine, quietly I handed him the wad of parchment. Silently, he took it from me and began to read.
I watched as he whispered to Samuel who quickly moved to pick up a piece of parchment and quill, quickly transcribing the words George spoke aloud.
I sighed as George continued drafting a letter to the undertaker in charge of funerals. My attention turning to Aoibhinn who made her way through the door, her grey uniform dress flowed behind her as she rushed, her auburn curls neatly tied with a ribbon. She held small pieces of card in her hands.
