George's POV

I kept my gaze down on the female's sleeping features, watching her steady, slow breathing as the carriage made its way down the countryside, swaying ever so slightly as the sounds of hurried hooves against the pathway was muffled.

Her upper body was laid across my lap, her head turned to the side and resting on my right arm while her hands lay under her chest and over her abdomen.

My fingers gently move the hair away from her face, tucking it behind her ear before my hand moves to rest on hers.

Yet, even drowning out the sounds from outside or watching her peaceful features didn't help my nerves, which still remained noticeable along with the slow, heavy beat of my heart against my chest.

Y/N takes a sudden, yet soft inhale of breath, her body tensing as she catches our attention, turning her head to face up- and I hear Samuel shift in his seat, our eyes watching her cautiously as the male holds his breath.

And I wanted to also; to stop my already constricted breathing for a moment that felt like forever as I practically force myself not to squeeze her hand.

Her free hand moves slowly up to her closed eyes, the back of her palm rubbing her right eye as she shakily exhales and mumbles a few words so soft none of us caught them.

My right thumb cautiously rubs her shoulder as she cracks open her drowsy blue eyes, clearly still half asleep as her hand pulls the edge of the blanket closer to her chest.

I watch her closely, seemingly studying her half-lidded eyes as she slowly starts to sit up, yet I calmly stop her, pulling her onto my lap and fixing her blanket as I softly soothe her.

"Geor...ge."

Her sleep laced voice breathes my name and I hold her closer, my arms wrapped around her frame to provide some warmth.

"Go back to sleep." I say softly near her ear, trying not to show my nerves as I pepper a kiss on the top of my head and she weakly nods and exhales, her eyes falling closed.

"George..." she mumbles, her chest rising with a small breath before she exhales, and my thumb rubs her shoulder.

"You're ok. You'll be alright." I soothe and she nuzzles the crook of my neck as she falls back into her tea induced slumber, her hands holding the edge of the blanket while resting by her chest and her legs laying on the backrest of the cushioned seats, tucked up and resting by my side.
