I was trying to breathe. I felt like someone was choking me, not enough to kill me but still enough to make me feel light-headed. I was trying to fight it off but there was no one to fight, I was alone. My head felt like someone would pour acid on it, or at least something boiling hot that melted my face off. I tried to scream but couldn't make a single noise. Besides, there was no one to hear me, no one to help.
Until I shot up, gasping for air, trying to stabilize my breathing. I felt like I was breathing for the first time in years, so I took in as much air as I possibly could, before finally starting to observe what I was seeing. I was in a white, sterile room, laying on a hospital-type-of-bed. I had some tubes and wires all over my body, attached to some kind of beeping monitors. I knew what I was seeing but I didn't understand it.
I didn't see anyone around, so I landed my bare legs on the floor. It was cold, and once I started to put my weight onto my legs, I collapsed, taking all the monitors down with me.
- '' Aw, shit'', I cursed since the needles on my arms, etc were pulling me painfully. I started to rip them off before I heard someone walking towards the room. I crawled behind the bed to hide, even if that was ridiculous. I ripped one of the needles off the tube to use it as a weapon, just in case. But the person walking into the room was a nurse, dressed in all white. She was wearing one of those typical nurse dresses and I found myself thinking that this was some kind of hidden camera or something I was on. No way this could be real. When the nurse saw me behind the bed with my needle pointing toward her, she started to scream before passing out.
- '' What the hell?'', I asked myself. Was this really a joke? How could a nurse react like this? Another nurse came to see what was going on before she found her co-worker on the floor. She started to talk to her before calling in someone, probably the guards or something. If I'd be fast, I could now run past her and escape. But my legs were not cooperative. I couldn't do anything but sit on the floor.
- '' What's going on here?'', I heard a familiar voice.
- '' Y/N?'', he asked again before I peeked behind the bed. To my surprise, I saw Murphy. Or I think it was him. He was no longer blue nor patchy, his hair was back to his normal, brown color. This only made me question, even more, the things I saw.
- '' You are awake!'', Murphy said and sounded really surprised and excited but I didn't let my sad little weapon down. He started to walk closer to me.
- '' Don't come closer!'', I demanded but he was not obeying me.
- '' Come on, silly. You are safe here. Let me help you'', he said before taking a grip on my arms and pulling me up, just for me to fall back on his lap.
- '' What happened to my legs?'', I asked, since the situation was scaring me. I wasn't used to this sudden weakness, Murphy had to hold me up with both of his hands.
- '' I'll tell you everything, let's just find you some clothes first'', he said before I realized I was only wearing white underwear.
Once we found some clothes for me, Murphy led me to another hospital room so I could sit down and someone would come to check me up.
- '' Oh boy, I thought you'd never wake up'', Murphy couldn't be quiet.
- '' What do you mean?'', I asked.
- '' You were in a coma, nobody knew when you would wake up or if you would. Or maybe you'd wake up and you wouldn't have your memory. But seems like you do, don't you?'', Murphy spoke too fast for me to get in all the words.
- '' I remember I got shot. How long was I gone?'', I asked, closing my eyes.
- '' Oh honey, for 2 years almost''.
