Til death do us apart

The sun was starting to rise after a night spent inside the car we arrived with. It was peaceful and kind of beautiful to see the next day rise, even if the fact that there might be no tomorrow was scaring me. I suppose it made this morning so special since it could be the last one.

Doc was waking up from his slumber due to the sunlight hitting his face.

- '' Dang, its bright'', he said. Just then I heard the sound of a car, which made me jump behind the wheel and speed off somewhere to hide. We were dumb enough to stay next to the tunnel we found, just in case we didn't lose it, but now I realized it was suspicious in case we'd meet some unwanted visitors. Murphy in the back of the car was flying around due to my driving.

- '' What the hell is happening?!'', he was yelling while trying to grab onto something. When I thought we were safe, I stopped the car, just to notice the unknown car was still following us and catching up to us fast. Before I was ready to go again, Doc stopped me.

- '' It's Warren!'', he said, and indeed, the one behind the wheel was no one else than Warren with Lily and 10K. We got out of the car.

- '' Why the hell were you speeding away? We thought you were guys from Zona'', Lily said but she was still relieved to see us all alive and well.

- '' We thought you were from Zona'', I answered.

- '' She thought'', Murphy mumbled, trying to recover from the bumpy ride.

- '' Alright, did you find the place?'', Warren asked.

- '' Yes, it's right there. It's an underground tunnel'', I said.

- '' And the president?'', Doc asked. 10K got out of the car and was walking a zombie from its necktie.

- '' Great'', Murphy said.

- '' Let's not waste any time. We don't know yet what we will meet down there so let's get prepared for anything. Who's missing ammos?'', Warren asked as we stocked up our guns and other weapons. Then we all got down the tunnel, except for 10K and the zombie president.

- '' How the hell are we supposed to bring him?'', 10K asked.

- '' Just drop him, I will catch'', Murphy said. 10K hesitated for a while before pushing the zombie down the tunnel. Murphy dodged him at the last second and the poor zombie fell down on the floor.

- '' Murphy!'', Doc scolded him.

- '' What? He seemed heavier than I thought'', Murphy said, clearly not sorry for his actions. Lily checked on the zombie that was slightly wounded but still alive.

- '' He is good to go. Let's go'', Murphy said and we all started to move in an order where 10K and Lily were checking the behind and Warren was leading us. We didn't meet any Zona guards, but we did meet some blind zombies.

As we got to the control room, Warren was lost in her own world again. She started to handle the buttons and switches like she knew what she was doing, the rest of us were just staring at each other in confusion.

- '' What was this supposed to do again?'', Murphy asked.

- '' How can we know that this works?'', 10K asked.

- '' Why couldn't we stop by the cafeteria? I mean, if we are about to die, we might as well get a snack doing so'', Doc said.

- '' Quiet!'', Warren commanded and then turned around.

- '' There is a drone outside. I have to go and switch these bottles inside it. Once I am done, I will signal you, and then you will turn the switches and use the president's handprint. Clear?'', Warren explained her crystal clear plan.

- '' Yes, first the print'', Doc said.

- '' Focus! We don't have much time. I will have to go out there alone, all of you; stay here''.

- '' But-''.

- '' That's an order'', Warren said before opening a door to a garage and closing it behind her.  We were left there, following her actions through a security cam. There indeed was a drone in the garage, but it seemed that it wasn't meant to be controlled by humans. Warren got inside the drone. We waited anxiously for her to come back, pacing around the control room.

- '' Hey what's that?'', Doc asked suddenly, pointing at the cam. Someone was moving outside the drone, someone who was clearly not Warren.

- '' Hey I know him. He's from Zona'', Murphy said, getting closer to the cams. Seemed like the guy was waiting for Warren to get out from the drone to strike her.

- '' We need to stop him'', Murphy said before grabbing his sword and starting to rush outside before Doc stopped him.

- '' Warren told us to wait here'', he said.

- '' Yeah but Warren didn't know there was someone else'', Murphy said, opening the door and hurrying outside. We all panicked for a moment, thinking about what we should do. Murphy was battling the Zona guy while Warren got out from the drone and signaled us to launch it.

- '' Here we go'', Doc said while pressing one button. 10K was on the other end and Lily was pressing the president's thumb against the scanner. I looked at the cam to see Warren hesitating for a while before getting back in the drone.

- '' What is she doing?'', I asked.  Then the guy from Zona grabbed a bottle from the shelves and let the gas inside it leak. I had no idea what was inside them, but it was causing great pain for both Murphy and the Zona guy.

I couldn't watch the scene anymore, so I hurried outside too. I kicked the gas bottle far away before helping Murphy get up. I tried to look for the guy from Zona, but he was gone. Lily, 10K, and Doc hurried to the scene as well.

- '' If Warren doesn't get out from that drone right now, it's gonna take her with it!'', Doc yelled as the drone was starting to get its motors ready for the flight. I was busy helping Murphy get up as he was wailing in pain.

- '' Warren!'', Doc yelled, but it was too late. The drone locked its doors and started to levitate before the motors went full on and it flew away with Warren inside it. We were all speechless at the scene. As Murphy got up, I noticed his skin has turned totally red.

- '' What was in that bottle?'', Doc asked.

- '' The black rainbow'', Murphy said. We all watched as the drone was flying off and then it started to drop black coal everywhere. The coal didn't look like the cure we were waiting for. No, it most definitely looked like the black rainbow we were told about.

- '' I suppose this is it fellas'', Doc said.

- '' Wait, really? This ends here?'', 10K asked. Doc shrugged.

- '' I doubt Warren survives that, and if she doesn't, we won't either. I'm sorry man, even we can't succeed in every mission'', Doc said while lighting up a blunt. Lily dropped her gun and just stared into the view in front of us. We all stood there quite calmly. Something about the black particles falling down on the ground was soothing. There was no running anymore, there was nothing we could do anymore and it felt almost comforting. After 8 years of fighting, the world finally gave us our mercy. Our duties were over.

- '' Y/N'', Murphy woke me up from my hypnotizing thoughts. I turned to look at him and his now red skin. Just when he was done being blue.

- '' Yes?'', I asked.

- '' Will you marry me?'', he asked out of sudden.

- '' What? Now?'', I asked.

- '' No, tomorrow. Don't waste your time thinking about your answer. It doesn't matter either way'', Murphy answered. I looked at his eyes which had given up just like the rest of us.

- '' Yes'', I said. I didn't use my precious last minutes thinking about our past and all the mistakes and mess that was left behind. It didn't matter and it wouldn't matter because there was no tomorrow.

- '' You may kiss the bride'', Doc said. Murphy wrapped his arms around me before pulling me in for a deep kiss. Nothing mattered at that moment. I was ready to die in it.
