The miraculous kid

I'm walking in the middle of the woods barefoot. The moss under my feet feels soft but moist and I am not sure if I feel safe or not. There are no zombies around but something else is and I can feel its presence following me. I pick up my speed but I can't get any further from it. I can feel it against my skin and hear it inside my head. It's calling my name, telling me to stop. But it doesn't matter because now I can't move anymore, I am running but I won't get further. I can't even look behind me but I can feel it getting closer.

- '' Let me help you'', I hear Murphy say next to me, he takes my hand and pulls me closer before cracking my skull open and eating my brain.

I woke up screaming, covered in a cold sweat. I was panting hard and it took me some time to realize where I even was. I calmed down a bit when I understood that I was still in the car and Murphy was nowhere around.

- '' Phew, sorry for that. Nightmares'', I said as I realized that I had to take one of the vaccines again. I knew this isn't how diabetes works but my hopes were up that this dude wouldn't know any better. The cold sweat didn't leave my body for a while and the bite mark on my back kept aching every single time I took the vaccine. But I guess it was working since my mind wasn't so hazy anymore, I could think with my own mind.

- '' We are in Springfield'', the man next to me said. I looked around but I didn't recognize the view so it didn't matter.

- '' Already? Cool. Just drop me somewhere and I'll be fine'', I said and it didn't take him long to stop and throw me out.

- '' Thanks. Maybe we will meet, maybe not'', I said as I got out of the car.

- '' Probably not'', he said as I closed the door and he sped off. I was holding the bag with the vaccines close to me as if someone was there to steal them from me. Now I just had to find the house. The house where my baby lives in.

I kept wandering around and honestly, I had no idea where to look for. I never met the couple, I didn't know where they lived. But I stayed off the road, that was for sure. The place couldn't be that big, right? But oh boy it was.

Until I heard a voice in my head. It freaked me out at first and I looked around but saw no one. Maybe I was officially going crazy now.

- '' Who are you?',' I heard it again; it was the voice of a little girl.

- '' Where are you?'', I asked out loud, still not understanding. I stormed forward before finally seeing a big house with a play yard. And near the yard, there was a little girl standing. She was holding a doll in her hands and looking at me. Her skin was blue.

- '' Lucy?'', I asked carefully. It didn't make any sense that she would be this big already, but then again, there was nothing normal in her.

- '' Who are you?'', she now asked out loud.

- '' I- My name is Y/N. I am your mother'', I said with a shaky tone, I couldn't believe this was real. Her expression was confused.

- '' My mom? Did you come here to play with me?'', she asked.

- '' Yes, I came here to be with you. We can play as much as you want'', I said and almost teared up before taking a few steps closer to her. She finally smiled at me, getting excited. I noticed that the yard was filled with zombies and my heart jumped.

- '' Darling, watch out'', I said and stared at the Z's. Lucy turned around to look at the Z's and laughed.

- '' Don't be afraid. They are my friends'', she said before waving at the zombies, and to my surprise, they waved back. She had dressed the zombies in different costumes and they genuinely looked like they were there to play.

- '' No doubt, you are your daddy's girl'', I said as Lucy took my hand and lead me forward.

- '' Look Annie, this is my mom'', Lucy explained to one of the zombies that tried to lean forward to catch me but Lucy scolded her. I guess it was comforting to see that I was becoming food to the Z's again instead of being one of them. Lucy sat me down on a small table and offered me her '' tea''.

- '' Tell me about my dad'', Lucy asked and I gulped. I definitely didn't feel like talking good about him since my feelings toward him were mostly fear, currently.

- '' Well, your dad was blue, just like you. And he is friends with the zombies. And he loves you very much, too'', I said and they weren't lies. Lucy seemed pleased with my answer.

- '' Do you love daddy?'', she asked the worst of them all. What was I supposed to say? That I ran away from him because he was controlling everything in my life, broke my trust, and was trying to end humankind? But I guess I used to love him at least. Before all this.

- '' Yes, very much'', I lied.

- '' Will I meet him too?''.

- '' I think we could go on a trip, just you and me. What do you think?'', I asked, trying to change the subject. Lucy shot up, jumping and dancing.

- '' Trip! I'm going on a trip with my mom!'', she sang, making the zombies even more interested. Then she took my hand again and lead me towards the house.

- '' I will tell my other pa and ma about this'', she said and I knew that was a bad idea. They didn't know who I was and they most likely wouldn't let me disappear with her like this. A gunshot woke me from my thoughts and I pulled Lucy close to me to protect her. The door shot open and the couple walked out with their guns pointed at me.

- '' Get away from her'', the man said and I noticed they both were bitten by Murphy, indeed. I didn't move at all, I tried to think what was the best thing I could possibly do. But that was before I heard a car appear in the yard and both the parents were shot to death. Lucy didn't see it because I was still holding her against me, thank god. I tried to see who it was who came before noticing it was the man I was traveling with. At first, I felt relieved. But now his gun was pointing at me.

- '' Are you her mother?'', he asked, referring to Lucy. I just nodded and knew this was bad.

- '' Get in the car''.

Murphy's POV

Warren was not easy to work with. Not like she had ever been but especially now.

- '' If she ran away from you, then accept the fact and live with it. Glad to know she kept her own head'', Warren would say, making me rage. I tried my everything to get her on my side. Negotiation didn't work, she couldn't be bribed, and threatening only made her laugh. I was ready to throw things at the walls and my anxiety made me sleepless. None of my men had still seen a glimpse of her which felt unreal.

Until I heard a loud crash outside and someone came running to tell me there was a plane that just hit the land. I, Warren, and a handful of my soldiers went outside to see what was going on. From the plane dug up a rather skinny man whose voice I recognized.

- '' Citizen Z'', I said. He was coughing and brushing dust off his jacket before noticing us.

- '' Murphy, Warren, great to see you. This feels almost unreal'', he started to speak and I crossed my arms.

- '' You could have just sent a message'', I said, not pleased with the fact that he was here.

- '' I tried but no one picked up. This is urgent'', he said and I almost rolled my eyes. His urgent was always something stupid, vaccine this and operation bitemark that.

- '' I am tired of your plans and explaining. You are not welcome here'', I said.

- '' It's about Y/N and Lucy. It seems like they are being kidnapped''.
