Murphy's POV
Lucy was gone. This time it really meant she was gone; she wasn't hiding, she wasn't kidnapped or '' possibly alive but most likely not''. She was dead, she died in my arms due to old age while saving my life. The guilt inside me was huge; what kind of parent lets their child die for their own life? I either really needed a drink or to whack some zombies.
Someone else was gone too, and that was Y/N. I mean, she was physically alive and there, but in her head? She was gone. After the funeral, she stopped responding to anything. She wouldn't answer or listen to anything, just blankly stare somewhere. If anyone would touch her, she would shake their hands off her.
Seeing her like this was weird and heartbreaking since I was used to her constantly fighting back for things she didn't like or thought was right. Right now she had just given up everything and there was no way for us to get through to her.
Eventually, we had no other choice than move on. We herded Y/N to the platform of a car where she sat with her legs up against her chest, staring into nothing. I was sitting there too in my own thoughts until I heard a noise.
- '' Help me!'', the voice of a woman echoed somewhere.
- '' What was that?'', I asked as Lily stopped the car.
- '' Help me!'', the same voice chanted all again. I jumped out of the platform of the car, going towards the noise before Warren stopped me.
- '' Hey, take it easy now'', she said to me.
- '' You're the one who always wants to stop whenever there is someone in trouble, and now you want to leave a woman alone in trouble? Not very girl boss of you, Warren'', I told her before walking past her toward the noise. The rest of the group had no other choice than drive the car closer once I found the woman who was in trouble. She was tied to a Ferris wheel and under that were very hungry zombies ready to snack on her. I took out my sword - or cane (depending on the situation) - and killed all of the zombies that were aiming for the woman. Once that was done, I and Doc helped the woman get down.
When the woman got down, she almost jumped to hug me.
- '' My savior!'', she spoke drunk words but I took a step back to avoid her and her vomit-like smell.
- '' Easy there. Who did this to you?'', I asked her.
- '' Those darn Zuggalos'', she grunted.
- '' The what now?''.
- '' Zuggalos. I used to be their leader. Then they just dumped me out like garbage. They found it very funny but once I see their faces again...'', the woman continued to slur.
- '' I don't think it's a good idea to go there'', Lily said once we heard the sounds of a party coming from a nearby building.
- '' My son is there'', the woman said.
- '' Your son? They caught him or what?'', my blood was starting to boil with this. The lady started to talk nonsense about her son and her dead husband and more about the '' Zuggalos'' and their drugs and blah blah blah.
- '' Alright, what if we just escort you to the house and help you get your revenge?'', I asked as I was getting tired of listening to her. She seemed to agree, so as we got our guns ready, I walked up to our car and tried to get Y/N off the car's platform and go sit inside the car. With a little bit of persuading, I was able to get her where I wanted her to be.
- '' Keep the doors locked honey. If someone claims to know us, they do not. We will be back in no time'', I explained to her but I wasn't sure if any of this was going to get in her head. I closed the door of the car and took out my sword.
- '' Let's kill some son of a bitches''.
But just like every single thing in this world, this didn't go as planned either. The Zuggalos were heavily armed and managed to sneak upon us creating a great battle scene, and eventually, half of them turned into zombies.
Once we ran out of the place toward the car, we noticed it was surrounded by dead zombies. The zombies clearly weren't there when we left, so I hurried to check inside the car to see if Y/N was safe. I swung the door open just to see Y/N sitting inside, covered from head to toe in zombie blood with an ice peak on her hand. It was hard to say if she was okay due to all the blood, but at least she was alive.
Just then she turned her head to look at me and her eyes met mine, which was more connection than she had made in some time.
- '' I might have realized something'', she said, but I didn't wait to hear what she had to say. I grabbed her arm and pulled her out from the car and in for a tight hug, not caring about the Z blood on her. She accepted my hug and even hugged me back, giving me great comfort.
- '' Puppies and kittens! We have to hurry!'', Warren said before hopping in the car. I pushed Y/N back inside the car and followed behind as we sped off from the scene.
Warren kept eyeing Y/N before finally speaking up.
- '' You okay there? Feeling any better?'', she asked her.
- '' No'', she answered. We were all quiet for a while before Y/N said something again.
- '' But we are alive'', she said. I took her hand into mine, not knowing what to say. Warren nodded.
- '' That's for sure. We are alive''.
Murphy's POV ends.
