"Well... I think this is a whole lot less scary." Chan was eyeing up the doorway to your bathroom, tapping on the wooden doorframe skeptically.
"It's not going to be totally legal either, but I suppose it's better than a massive ring of fire," you agreed, looking at the doorway a little uneasily yourself. Minho had promised to send over someone to put an entryway to Hell in your house. He told you all you needed was a doorway, but the door to your guest bathroom was the best you could provide.
"How are they even going to turn this into a portal?" Chan asked. Your answer came in the form of a shrug and a string of mumbles. You skipped a lot of classes about this sort of thing when you were younger.
An obnoxiously loud knocking on your front door echoed through the halls, followed by an equally loud, "Hello!"
"I'm going to take a guess and say that might be our guy," Chan suggested. You shot him an unamused look and went to go answer the door. Most of the branch heads were still at your house, though your sister and brother had left to go secure things over in the Jurisdictive Quarters, and Sylvia was asleep with Grace up in your bedroom, a heavy sheet draped over the window so she didn't burn alive.
Dahomey and Changbin were chatting in the dining room, though they'd stopped when they'd been loudly interrupted by your new guest. Jisung was currently in Hell, waiting to open the portal from the other side.
Arriving at the front door, you opened it and were dutifully surprised at who awaited you. "Asad!"
He smiled broadly, looking more than chuffed to be standing before you once again. "I know you aren't exactly successor for the Jurisdictive Quarters anymore, and that you are technically a bloodhound now, but I just want to say, it is still such an honour to be working with you."
Now out of Hell, Asad had donned his more human appearance, dark ochre skin complimenting his even darker horns, though he was still dressed in a very fine suit. "Well, I'm glad to see you too, I had no idea it was you Minho was going to send."
You weren't sure how he got out of work, but you supposed that if Asad was overseen by Jisung then he really could have just walked out of his office whenever he felt like it. You led him through your house, Asad bowing and gushing appreciatively at everyone he happened upon as you went, until you got to the bathroom down the end of the hall.
"Oh! And you've still got the human!" Asad clapped excitedly, though he looked at Chan as if he was a cute pet and not an actual person.
"Oh hey, I remember you." Chan's eyes lit up with recognition, no doubt recalling all those memories of your escapades in Hell some months ago. "Well, um, thanks for illegally opening a portal into Hell for us again."
Asad laughed, hitting Chan on the shoulder playfully, though Chan's wince suggested it actually hurt quite a bit. "You're a funny one, you are. Although this time it's not quite as illegal. Seeing as Jisung's father is High Prince Leviathan, Jisung has authority to operate gates and portals into Hell. He is supposed to register every time he opens or accepts a new gate, but I suppose he can just say it slipped his mind to report it."
You were almost concerned with how much Asad appeared to enjoy being involved in illegal activity. "I suppose it doesn't really matter much either way, what we're planning to do is a whole lot more illegal than opening an unregistered portal into Hell." You said, eyeing Asad a tad suspiciously.
Asad laughed loudly again, as if you'd just said the funniest thing he'd ever heard. "Oh stop it, both of you are just too funny."
"Open the portal Asad," you commanded. He stopped laughing and bowed his head once. Reaching into his bag, he pulled out a jar of what looked like dark grey dust. You shivered on instinct, slammed with the grisly memories of wet grave dirt wedged under your fingernails.
