The days went by as slowly as possible for Evelyn, all while other students complained of it being too short. Over her break she found herself staring at Fred's letter to her as his ring he'd gotten her laid on her hand. The note was tucked in her robes pocket for her to look at every so often, which she was thankful for no one to notice just yet. Maria had been stuck to Evelyn's side as she went on about her break and how all of her gifts and such.
Maria had her arm around Evelyn's as they walked. Both in their Slytherin robes while she went on and on about things Evelyn could care less about. Evelyn had started wearing muggle safety pins as earrings on a daily since being expelled from Beauxbatons just to annoy Lucius as he hated muggles with all of his cold, black, dead heart. Maria soon finally parted from Evelyn to go walk with a Slytherin boy who caught her eye. He surely didn't mind Maria taking his arm and walking with him.
After all her classes were finished, Evelyn was sat in an open window as she enjoyed the sun setting down as the sky blasted the most precious colors. She swung her legs lightly as the sky turned a beautiful orangey pink while the sun slowly went down. Her hair sat on her shoulder, slightly longer than from September.
"Malfoy." Evelyn turned around with a jolt to see Fred Weasley. She played a quick smile and acted as if her heart wasn't pounding against her chest. Fred grinned like a cat. "Did I startle you?"
"Never." said Evelyn before turning away. She held her breath as she felt Fr- him sit beside her, their shoulders brushing against each other briefly. She tugged her body away. "What do you want?"
Fred shrugged as he looked over at her. His pretty brown eyes burning into Evelyn's grey ones. "Only to ask how your break was." They continued to stare at one another before Evelyn sighed and turned away.
"It was... long." Evelyn found such a basic word to describe such an awful few weeks. She didn't dare meet his eyes and watched the trees leaves wave slightly in the cool breeze of winter. "And yours?" She looked to her lap.
"It was alright." Fred furrowed his eyebrows slightly as he thought if 'long' was good or bad. Her tone made him lean on the bad side. "We all played Quidditch and opened gifts and such. What did you get?" Evelyn turned to look at him which Fred raised an innocent hand at as the other one was holding his body up. "Only curious."
"I got a certain ring from a certain someone." Evelyn gave a teasing smile as Fred looked down and saw his ring next to one he recognized as she wore it daily. This made his stomach and heart flutter. Her smiling at him could have made him feel ill if he wasn't focused on the ring.
"Oh. Um.. well, I hope you like it." said Fred, feeling stupid the moment the words came out of his damned mouth. "Well of course you like it as your wearing it."
"Aren't you smart." Evelyn hummed lightly and turned back to the setting sun.
Fred couldn't help but glance down at his ring on her finger every so often. It was sat on her ring finger too, which was where and engagement or wedding ring would go which only made the boy blush at the idea of marrying her before he shook the idiotic thought away. He could never marry her. She'd never even let him hold her hand.
"I did get you a gift in return as I felt a bit guilty." Evelyn confessed softly and stood up quickly. "Stay here, will you? It's in my dorm." Fred gave a small but gleeful smile and nodded.
She ran off quickly, racing around the corner and out of sight. He turned back to the sun and fixed his body's uncomfortable position. He moved sideways to lean against the stone wall that was on his left and crossed his legs like a toddler.
Turning his head quickly at the sound of her heels clicking, Fred saw her running over with a wrapped gift and a pretty bow on top. The question on how she got there so fast went over his head. Evelyn stopped with a huff and handed him the gift before sitting back on the open window sill.
Fred gave a quick glance at Evelyn to ask for permission to open it which she nodded to, biting her bottom lip with a hint of pink cheeks. He looked down with hot cheeks and gently opened the gift. He crumbled the wrapper and sat it in the gap between their body's along with the hand tied bow. He held the item which was a beautiful black notebook with silver writing that Evelyn wrote herself in a beautiful shimmery silver cursive.
'To Fred Weasley, from Evelyn Malfoy.' sat in the top left corner as a large silver flower sat in the middle with lettering on the bottom, curving with the flower saying 'WEASLEY PROPERTY'.
"You drew that?" Fred asked curiously, turning the notebook to look at both sides only to see the back had a lion on it.
"Salazar, no." Evelyn let out a small laugh which only made Fred smile. "It's a charm I found. I'm no good with art or drawing or such."
"I love it." Fred told her truthfully. "Thank you." He opened the book and found each page littered with potion instructions and other prank ideas which made him howl with laughter. "Your joking? You wrote all this?"
"I told you my break was long. Besides, finding prank ideas and potions is a fun way to pass time." Evelyn shrugged and leant back briefly before she quickly stood back up as Fred watched her. "I'm off to bed. Goodnight."
Fred hummed, "G'night." He then went on to flick through the pages in his seat but looked up at the sound of a gasp.
He saw Evelyn standing dumbfounded at the corner down the hall. She stepped back as a silhouette appeared in front of her. A boy nor he or Evelyn recognized.
