After Fred tore Evelyn off of the three Beauxbatons students he brought her out into the hall then into a closet. He knew something of a contract between Evelyn and Alexander but never knew it was marriage. He'd thought he was only teasing with 'fiancé' and 'marriage' to guilt her into being with him or something. The more he thought about it the stupider the idea's sounded. The night he saw Alexander and Evelyn after she'd given him the notebook he hadn't heard their conversation.
"What-" Evelyn began but stopped as she saw how angry Fred looked.
"Did she say, marriage?" Fred questioned as he glared at the door instead of Evelyn.
"Fred-"
"You and Burke are engaged!?" Fred asked but in a louder tone making Evelyn step back. "I knew something was going on like a contract or your parents guilting you but not marriage!"
"You were in the hall when me and him first met. When I gave you the notebook." Evelyn reminded Fred in an angry tone as well. "He full on called me his fiancé, Fred! And in the halls he talks about it!"
"The hall I couldn't hear a thing you two were saying." Fred told Evelyn as his eyebrows furrowed slightly. "I dunno, I thought he was just calling you fiancé to guilt you in a way- I don't know! I didn't think it was an actual engagement! You said you had to marry him when you were drunk but I mean, you were drunk. You were just rambling!"
"It's not like I even had a choice in it Fred!" Evelyn shouted back as he was mid confused but also clearly furious. "They forged my signature!"
Fred turned to her, placing his arms above her and blocking her with his body. In different circumstances, Evelyn would be blushing and praying he'd kiss her but she only glared up at him. Fred simply felt mad at everything. At Burke, Evelyn's parents, and Evelyn herself.
"Why do you even care?" Evelyn spat in a whisper.
"Because I like you!" Fred yelled, backing away and leaning against the wall across from her. "As a friend of course! I don't want to see you with a shit head."
"Oh whatever." Evelyn rolled her eyes and left the closet, slamming the door behind her. Fred slid to the floor and sat in his pile of anger. Evelyn felt disappointed as the words 'I like you' had lit up her heart but the friend part broke it.
