Nia sighed and rubbed her lower back before taking a seat on the rolling chair close by her desk. She whipped out her clipboard and made sure to check off the names of all the babies who just received a medication.

"Okay, let's see here...Liam was just given his insulin shot...Twins Daniel and Zoey just received a dosage of Ampicillin..." Nia said to herself going down her list.

"Who the hell am I missing..." while trying to figure out which child was due to receive medication, a loud, pitchy cry pierced the air and the name immediately came to her.

"Layla...Of course..." Nia says immediately hopping up, making sure to put on a pair of gloves.

"Layla-Layla...what's the matter? Huh?" Nia asks gently picking up the frail infant into her arms. She hushed the baby and checked her stats to see if she needed anything more than medication.

"It says here you last ate around an hour and a half ago...don't worry, Miss. Nia will get you together sweetheart." Nia whispers before placing the infant down. She was currently responsible for four newborn babies in her pod, she made sure to treat all the babies like they were her own children.

"Alright Layla, I hear you baby..." Nia says preparing Layla for her tube feeding. She made sure everything was ready before propping up the infant in her arms before deploying her feeding into the tube using the syringe.

Something about feeding the babies through a tube brought great sadness to Nia's heart. Now that Nia was expecting a child of her own, something about this moment she was spending with this helpless baby girl had brought her to tears.

"Keep it together Nia..." she whispers to herself as she holds the girl in her arms and gives her the medication she was due.

After the tube delivered enough food to the baby and the crying stopped, Nia was also satisfied.

"Isn't that all better? Yeah?" Nia says placing a pacifier in the girl's mouth before laying her back down in her incubator.

Just then Nia's Apple Watch buzzes on her wrist and she smiled upon seeing a text message from Sebastian saying that he had been waiting for her in the cafeteria. She loved when he would come hang out with her on her lunch breaks.

"Hey Mama bear!" Nia turned around and chuckled when her co-worker Theresa had entered the nursery pod.

"Hey, you coming to send me on break?"

"I sure am! I still can't believe you're having a baby, what are you having?"

"My boyfriend and I decided we're not finding out the gender. We were able to find out as early as 10 weeks but we both decided against it." Nia says rubbing her belly.

"That's the way to do it! It's always more fun when it a surprise!" Theresa replies. "I can't wait to see that little baby of yours Nia. I'm sure he or she will be the cutest!"

"Thank you so much. Right now all the babies are alright they all just had medications administered...and Miss Layla just got fed. Danny and Zoey have a scheduled visit with Mom between now and 2pm, Liam just had his insulin so I'd say to check his sugars again around 1:45ish...and Layla is perfect. Unless they need diapers they shouldn't need much else." Nia explained.
