Hailey has been dreading this day for the past month, she knew at some point they had to leave Alaska but she didn't realize it would be this soon. She thought she'd have more time to spend with him, more time to be able to tell him how she feels but they were leaving tomorrow. Now there was nothing else to do except pack her stuff and enjoy their last night out.

"Hey!" Avery exclaimed, walking into the girls room, "You almost done? We should leave soon."
"Um yeah, I just need my toiletries."
"Are you okay?" her blonde friend questions, prompting Hailey to furrow her eyebrows in confusion. "You seem kind of upset. Is this about Rudy? You still have time, you know."
"We're leaving tomorrow, Aves. It wouldn't be fair."

"Hailey listen to me." Avery started, taking the girls hands in hers and sitting down on the edge of the bed. "I've seen the way you two are around each other, okay? There's something more between you guys than fooling around and you know it, and if he doesn't wanna be with you then fuck it. You'll probably never see him again anyways."

The brunette thought over her friends words for a minute, part of her knew Avery was right, she didn't necessarily have to keep in touch with the boy. The other part of her, however, was terrified of rejection. After all, it was part of the reason her friends dubbed her as the relationship virgin, she's never been able to have a proper relationship.

After a few minutes of silence and the gears in her head turning at an alarmingly rapid pace, she gained permission from her friend to meet up with Rudy tonight and she texted him. The pair ended up going a nice little dinner in town, they spent their time like they usually did, just joking around and enjoying each other's presence. It was when Rudy suggested they take a walk around town that she decided it was time to tell him.

"Hey Rudy." she spoke, grabbing his arm to pull him to a stop. "So, um, you know i'm leaving tomorrow. What we've had over the past month or so, it was nice, we had fun, you know? But I just wanted to tell you-"

"It's okay, Hailey." he interrupts, "Whatever we had, it's over now, I know that. You don't need to tell me. No strings, right?"

His response only broke something in the girl, her smile noticeably faltering as she let out a small laugh to deflate the tension building between them. And just like that, they continued on with their night and she left the next morning. As if nothing ever happened.

Not knowing that the boy she left behind felt the same way she did.

AN: i love hurting rudy and hailey🥰
