Chapter 13

When the wind sounds stop, I open my eyes. We're back at the Elemental Valley. "Why are we back here?" I ask. "I need to find us another place to stay." Anna says.

"So we're going to stay here for a night again?"

"Yes."

I head back to the living room. This time I don't go see the bookshelf. I just sit down a while and think. My mom called the police. She thought I ran away. My phone keeps on receiving phone calls and text messages. I want to answer and tell the world I'm all right.

But I can't. Soon I get hungry and head to the kitchen. A Brownie is adding a cookie to the to the lunch it prepared for me, I assume since Anna isn't here. The lunch is grilled cheese with a small bowl of tomato soup, a glass of apple juice, and, of course, a cookie.

I want to say 'thank you' but I don't know if should say it or think it. I decide to think it. Thank you, I think. You're welcome, Rose, the Brownie thinks.

Then the Brownie disappears into a jar. As I eat my lunch, Anna comes into the room. "I've found another place." Anna says,"We should leave now so we can get adjusted to our surroundings." "Sounds good to me." I say between mouthfuls of grilled cheese.

"Okay, here we are." Anna says,"Peoria, Illinois." We stand in a small apartment. We're above the ground and the apartment has a balcony that overlooks the city. Peoria isn't as big as Chicago, but it'll suffice.

"So now to change your appearance." Anna says. She gets her wand, which is exactly like mine. She recites a songspell and I see sparkles fall around me. "There. Now no one will recognize you. We'll keep your fake name the same. Iris Seyer." Anna says. I find a full length mirror and look at myself.

My long brown braid is replaced with shoulder length black waves. My vision isn't as good as before. My fair skin is now a tan color. My lips are fuller. I definitely look different. I will no longer be recognized.

Anna has signed me up for a school called Emina High School. I should try to get used to this, traveling all over the place and living fake lives. I'm going to start school Monday.

Another car waits outside to take me to school. Anna is a great... guardian? I don't know what to call her. I'll stick with 'Anna' for now. Using my phone, I find my way to school.

I walk in and had for the main office. When I walk in, I see someone else inside. I wait patiently for the person to leave. The person is a girl with dirty blond hair, green eyes, and fair skin. She's wearing an oversized sweatshirt and jeans with black boots.

Fashionable in a lazy way. When she leaves I get my schedule. I look over it.

Homeroom: ms. samo
Period 1: math- ms. samo
Period 2: social studies- ms. beck
Period 3: science- mrs. soto
Period 4: music/gym
Period 5: reading- mrs. field

I begin to search for my homeroom. It's supposed to be room 103. I head inside, everyone stares at me when I walk in. I guess Iris is just as pretty as Rose.

As I walk to the teacher's desk, I notice the blond girl from the main office is here. I hand my schedule to Ms. Samo. She nods and tells me to take a seat. Since the desk next the blond girl is empty, I sit in it.

I decide to introduce myself. "Hi, I'm R-Iris. Iris Seyer." I say, kicking myself for almost saying my real name. The girl smiles. "I'm Winter. Winter Rekam-Eohs." I freeze. I recognize that name. It's the name of the Water Mage in training.

This girl is the Water Mage.
