Chapter 9

I awake and Anna is standing over me. I put myself into a sitting position as she says,"We're going to eat breakfast and leave. I've found a place for us to stay." "Where?" I ask.

"You'll find out."

We walk to the dining room and breakfast was waiting on the table. On the table was a basket of banana nut muffins, a pitcher of milk, and a bowl of berries. "Who did this." I ask. "What makes you think I didn't do this?" Anna says, her lips hinting a smile. I don't think she has smiled before.

"It just doesn't seem like you would do this."

"You're correct. I didn't do this. The Brownies did."

"The Brownies?"

"Yes. Mages have enchanted certain things to do certain tasks. The mages have decided to enchant the delicious things to do cooking tasks."

As if on cue, a brownie comes out of jar followed by two others. But they don't have legs or anything like that. They're floating. They float over to a cupboard and the door swings open.

They must use magic to do their tasks. Out of the cupboard floats out a loaf of bread. The fridge opens and ham and cheese fly out. I wonder how many Brownies are around the house.

Anna and I sit and begin to eat breakfast and watch the Brownies do their work. I assume they're making lunch to take with us. Food flys all over the kitchen. Bread being cut. Ham and cheese being sliced. Fruit put into small containers.

"Where does all this food come from." I ask. "It comes from our farms through a portal to this house." Anna says.

The Brownies have left and lunch for us to take sits on the table. Anna walks over and puts the food in her satchel. "It's time to go, Rose." she says.

We have gone through a portal and we stand in a backyard. A backyard? Where exactly are me and Anna staying? Anna seems to know where we are and walks right into the house of the backyard we're in.

It's a small house. I follow Anna in. Suddenly, my satchel vibrates. My phone. I've forgotten about my phone. I don't need to look. I have a good idea of who it might be.

No one is inside the small house. It hits me this is where we're staying. I head to the front yard of the house. I see a street with houses on both sides. Then I look to my right and I see something shocking. Not too far away from here is bridge that leads to a city.

A city.
