I've been quiet for too long. "Is there something wrong?" Winter asks. "Yes, I'm all right." I say, a little quickly,"Nice to meet you, Winter." The bell rings, signaling us to head to first period. Some students stay, some leave. Winter stays.

"So, hey, do you wanna sit together during lunch?" Winter asks. "When is lunch?" I ask, pretty sure there was no mention of lunch on my schedule.

"Between third period and fourth period."

"Okay, sure I'll sit with you."

I'm nervous about eating lunch with Winter. Does she know my real name and who I really am? No, of course not. She's known you less than a day. Don't be stupid. But when she asks what I like to do, that's when she might realize my possibility of being the Earth Mage.

Or maybe I'm just over thinking all of this. She might not be the Water Mage at all. Maybe I'm just jumping to conclusions because it's the same name I read in that book in the headquarters. Or the book was inaccurate.

Either way, I need to calm down. It's just lunch. Not an interview. After I grab my tray, I search the tables for Winter. I find her alone at table for two people. Doesn't Winter have friends?

I walk over to the table. "Hey, Winter." I say. "Oh, hi, Iris." Winter says, a small smile on her face. As I sit down, Winter begins talking.

"In case you're wondering why I'm sitting alone, I'm new here. Not as new as you though. Been here about a week."

"Okay. So what do you like to do?"

Winter hesitate a little. "I love to swim. I'm really good at it, too. I practically like anything water related."

"Okay, that's cool."

I sound calm, but inside I'm going crazy. If her live off water doesn't prove she's a Water Mage, I don't know what does.

"So what do you like to do?"

Now I'm the one who hesitates. "Go outside, play with animals. Anything outside and natural."

We're both silent for a while. We're probably thinking the same thing: Is she an  Elemental Mage? Suddenly the bell rings signaling lunch is over.

"So I'll see you later, Winter." I say. "You, too, Rose." replies Winter. I freeze. She knows I'm not some girl called Iris. She knows I'm the Earth Mage named Rose. I also now know she's the Water Mage named Winter.

When I'm about to drive home, Winter stops me. "So Rose, do you know who the Fire Mage is?" Winter asks. "No, I don't." I reply.

"Also, is this how you really look?"

I hear a hint of jealousy in her voice. "This is just a disguise. In case you don't know, police are searching for me. Long story."

"Okay. See you tomorrow."

She waves as she walks away to her own car. I wave back. But then I see someone walking toward my car. Peter. "Hey, new girl. Have you seen a girl about your height, with long brown hair in a braid and fair skin?" he asks. "I bet there are tons of girls that could fit that description." I say back.

"Well her voice is similar to yours."

"Nope."

"Okay. By the way you're really pretty. What is your name, New Girl?"

"It's Iris."

"Well, Iris, you maybe wanna hangout?"

"I prefer not. Bye, Peter."

As I quickly drive away, I realize my mistake. I called him Peter. He never said his name and I'm supposed to be new.
