Once I'm locked in my room, I look at the sheet Anna gave me.

Basic Spirit Animal Spell
The creatures of this Earth
Hear my voice
Of the creatures of this Earth
I call (insert scientific animal name) to my aid/ to go into war.

Seems simple enough. I think of the scientific name of a rabbit. Lepus curpaeums. So I recite the spell with the wand in hand and a translucent rabbit appears in front of me. This is really simple. But then the rabbit talks to me. But not out loud. It feels like it's talking inside my head. It says,"Why have you called me here?" Do I talk out loud or think my words? I think them. "Just practicing my spells." I reply to the rabbit.

"So you're the Earth Mage?"

"Yes. My name is Rose."

"Nice to meet you Rose."

With that the transculent rabbit fades away. The rabbit might have accepted my reason for calling it here for testing. But I'm not sure other meaner creatures would.

I look at the other earthspell.

Basic Earth Spell
The soil and rock of this Earth
Hear my command
The green life and solids on this Earth
I call forth a/an (specify weapon/defence) of (specify material)

If it's as simple as the spirit animal spell, I should master all my other spells with flying colors. I decide to summon a sword made of stone. I head outside to perform the spell.

I recite the spell and ground begins to shake. I stumble back a little as a small crack in the ground opens and a stone sword floats out. As the small crack closes, I grab the handle of the sword. The sword crumbles. So maybe I won't master all my spells with flying colors. I'll need to ask Anna about that spell.

The next day, Charity stands at my locker. "Hey, Rose. Why didn't you text me last night?" she asked, a little confused. I don't blame her. We text every night. "I was just busy yesterday. You know...with homework." I lie.

"Okay. Next time you're drowning with homework send a text or something."

"Sure." But I doubt I would have the time. My earthspell training is like extra homework or an extracurricular activity. I don't know if can live my life and my destiny at the same time. Am I supposed to? I don't know. Anna dosn't seem like she has family and friends. She seems...lonely.

If I'm an Earth Mage, can I truly be a normal person? I don't know. I don't know.

When I'm home, I do all things I can before 5pm. When 5pm arrives, I head out to Anna's small shack. Once I'm there, tell her about the sword crumbling in my hand. "You need to be confident and focused." Anna tells me,"If you're not, the spell shall fail and if it happens when you're in danger, how can you save yourself?" "When will I ever be in danger?" I ask, a little nervous at the thought of my life at risk.

"Being an elemental mage isn't just balancing your element and using powers as toys. There are dark creatures with evil motives on this earth, who want to take the planet over and destroy the elements so new elements replace it. Those are machines, darkness, and poisen. The opposite of earth, fire, and water."

"What are those creatures exactly?"

"Evil witches, dark dragons, smoke gollems, and other horrors."

I let the information sink in. Battling evil? Using spells? Protecting earth 24/7? No. I don't think I can live a normal life.

I'm sorry if the chapters seem short. I'll update the story whenever I can.
