Evie’s POV

“Answer your phone, please answer your phone,” I repeated pacing up and down behind the Lockwood’s house. I needed to get through to her, and not be seen here by Mrs Lockwood.

The phone beeped again so I finally decided to settle on a voice message, “Elena Gilbert, why aren’t you answering your phone? Jeremy got sick, I don’t have an escort. Help me El, I need someone, can you ask Damon, I have no other choice please.”

I paced up and down looking at my phone every couple of seconds until it rang.

“Elena?” I questioned.

“Yeah it’s me,” She stated, “Damon’s with Bonnie.”

“Who else is there?” I sighed, “Why did you brother have to get sick?”

“Well Caroline is with Tyler, Rebekah’s with Matt and I’m with Stefan, I don’t think there is anyone in our friend group,” She stated.

“Okay, bye Elena,” I frowned hanging up.

I frowned pacing once again. Elena was the one who forced me into this stupid contest. I didn’t want to be Miss Mystic Falls. Neither did Bonnie but Elena made us. I’m 164 years old I do not want to dress up as a stupid princess and prance around in front of a crowd, but I don’t think I have a choice.

Slumping down to the floor I pulled my knees up to my chest not caring if my dress got ruined. I sighed not minding if I got killed by Elena later. I was hidden for now, down an alley way. She (nor anyone else) would find me here.

Sadly someone appeared in front of me. Not familiar nor even recognisable.

“Excuse me; I’m bathing in self-pity,” I frowned looking up at the man. He was probably in his late twenties early thirties but he was fairly handsome. Fairly, he was handsome.

“What’s wrong love?” He smiled warmly.

“I’m supposed to be attending the Miss Mystic Falls Pageant but my escort is ill. Now, I either go and embarrass myself without anyone to dance with, or I hide out here until after it’s over,” I shrugged.

“I could be your escort to the Pageant,” He smiled softly; “I’m Klaus by the way.”

“Klaus… That’s a- unique name,” I stated. He was the hybrid the one I was supposed to avoid, but if I could annoy my brothers, I’ll change my mind, “I’m Evangeline but I haven’t been called that in years, you can call me Evie.”

I stood up knowing he was my only option for this pageant.

“That’s a lovely name, so would you like me to stand in as your escort?” He smiled.

“I would love that, we should get in there, it should start soon and I need to tell Mrs Lockwood about the change,” I shrugged.

He nodded as we began to walk into the Lockwood’s home. Mrs Lockwood was at the bottom of the stairs with Damon, Stefan, Tyler and Matt.

“Hello Mrs Lockwood there’s a change in plans,” I stated.

“What do you mean Evie?” She frowned.

“Jeremy’s sick, so my new escort is Klaus-“I stopped as I was un-sure of his last name.

“Mikaelson,” He stated.

“Okay, thank you for telling me, Klaus can you wait with the escorts, Evie go and wait with the other contestants,” She smiled.

I nodded saying my goodbyes. I walked up the stairs to the other girls who were waiting.

“Did you find someone?” Elena exclaimed as she saw me.

“If your brother wouldn’t help me, Rebekah’s sure did,” I smirked.

I was better friends with Rebekah than Elena but I had never met her family. I had met one of her brothers Elijah but the rest, I haven’t. She knew who I was related to, but she said her brothers wouldn’t be too impressed.

“You got Elijah to come to one of these things? He said he’d come to see us but not be anyone’s escort, it’s not his way in life,” She shrugged.

“No not Lijah, Your other brother Beks, Klaus,” I smirked.

“You’re here with Klaus?” Elena exclaimed.

“I picked the first guy I saw on the street and I’m sure if I ask really nicely he’ll kill you quickly,” I chuckled as we were told to prepare to go downstairs.

Caroline and Bonnie had already gone downstairs. Now it was my turn.

“Next we have Evangeline Salvatore with Klaus Mikaelson,” Mrs Lockwood announced. I walked down the stairs smiling at the people stood by the stairs. It was awkward but it was just going to get worse.

I smiled as I reached the bottom of the stairs and took Klaus’ hand. He led me outside, through the people. We reached the other two couples and waited for the next two.

Rebekah and Elena joined us within minutes as music started. We began to dance. I wasn’t the best at dancing I never had and never would be but Klaus was a very good dancer.

“Thank you for doing this for me,” I smiled softly.

“It’s okay love, it’s not every day that a Salvatore wants my help," He chuckled as we did the highly boring dance.

"I didn't know who you were. Although you seem nicer than my brothers ever mentioned. The way they spoke I thought you'd kill me as soon as you heard my name," I smiled.

"The way Rebekah and Elijah speak of you, I would have thought you would have attempted to kill me," He smirked.

"Don't worry I'm full of surprises," I chuckled.

"I think your the only person I have ever met, after knowing who I am that isn't scared," He smiled.

"Well I am a Salvatore, we have been described as a little mad. I'd also prefer not to fear someone I personally do not know. You could just be a very angry person, so if I stay on your good side, then my life should be preserved,"I smirked.

"Your one amazing girl Evie," He chuckled.

"So I've been told. But you seem misunderstood and special," I smiled softly as the music faded.

He took my hand again leading me to the stage where we had to answer meaningless questions. Mrs Lockwood then began to speak about who was the winner.

"This year, Miss Mystic Falls is Evangeline Salvatore," She stated.

I looked at the other girls shocked at what she had said. I stepped forward and took the flowers whilst the she placed the tiara on my head and put the sash around me.

People clapped as we walked off the stage and I walked over to Klaus.

"I couldn't have done this without you, thank you," I smiled pulling him into a tight hug squashing the flowers.

"Your welcome Evie," He chuckled hugging me back.

"Evie," I heard behind me.

I pulled away from the hug and turned around to see my brothers, Damon and Stefan.

"Hi guys," I smiled.

"Congratulations for being Miss Mystic Falls," Stefan stated.

"Why are you with him?" Damon exclaimed.

"Jeremy was ill and you two ditched me for Elena and Bonnie so I had no choice. I don't know why your complaining," I shrugged.

"He tried to kill Elena?" Damon said in a 'duh' voice.

"So," I shrugged, "He seems nice and not an evil, manipulative psycho hybrid as you've said."

"Whatever Eve, get yourself killed," Damon exclaimed stomping off. Stefan shock his head before following.
