Melody's POV

I had never understood the concept of true love. Not until I had spent about one thousand years fighting to be with the one I had loved. I couldn't be with him but I could only dream. The cheesiest quotes somehow covered my emotions to a tee, such as:

'You can love someone so much...But you can never love people as much as you can miss them,' - John Green.

'I believe in the immeasurable power of love; that true love can endure any circumstance and reach across any distance,' - Steve Maraboli.

The concept that scared me about finding my one true love isn't the distance at which he is, but the whole ordeal of not knowing whether he is safe and sound.

Over the past years I hadn't spoken to him, and I was sure that he didn't know where I was or what had happened to me, but I had seen him. It wasn't something that made me feel better, more like it unsettled me, knowing I couldn't be with him. He was so close but so far.

Now I hadn't given up as such but I had settled down in a small town named Mystic Falls. I couldn't spend the rest of eternity following him, but I could certainly never stop trying.

The town was quite quaint but equally beautiful although there was more than a fair share of vampires and other supernatural creatures here.

Although I enjoyed it here, there wasn't too much to do, just mainly sit around in the Mystic Grill or go to work, which I had chosen to do.

I had become a teacher's aide in the local school. It wasn't the best but it paid a bit (not that money mattered) and it got me out of the house.

Today was the first day I was going to be working there though, so hopefully it was as good as my expectations.

I inhaled a deep breath as I knocked on the classroom door of the room I would be working in. I heard a voice call, making me open the door.

"Hello, are you Alaric Saltzman?" I asked the man who looked about 30 years old.

"Yes I am, I am presuming you are my teaching aide," He smiled.

Walking into the room I closed the door behind me.

"That would be I. I am Melody Mikaelson," I smiled back putting my hand out for him to shake as I reached the desk.

"That's a mouthful," He chuckled shaking my hand.

"Yeah, next time I'll look for a husband with a better last name that doesn't cause an alliteration," I smirked.

I knew I'd never find another husband as I wanted to be a Mikaelson. It may have made me sound stupid but I wanted to be one more than anything as I needed Elijah to be truly happy.

"Aren't you a little young to get married?" He questioned.

"No. I got married because I completely love the man I married just it wasn't meant to be as his brother was jealous and said if he couldn't have me then no one could, so he simply drove me away. I never got divorced but I haven't seen him since either, but if we were meant to be it will. Are you married?" I smiled softly.

"I was, I got divorced though. She wasn't the woman I thought she was when I married her," He shrugged.

"I'm sorry. I'm sure one day you'll find true love and I'll be reunited with mine, but meanwhile shall we teach some unruly teenagers history?" I smiled.

He nodded as many teenagers came into the room and took their seats.

"Hello class, we have now got a teacher's aide who not only is here to fetch me coffee when I need it but also help me babysit you lot. What would you like to be called, Mrs Mikaelson or Melody, or something else?" He questioned.

"Melody is fine."

I looked at the classroom filled with teenagers and I could see I was getting confused looks from a few students along with one blond student I knew too well.

She sat still and didn't do anything to show she remembered me but I knew she'd know it was me, as it would be a very huge coincidence that someone had the same name as her brother's wife and looked very much like her. My natural light brown hair was now more of a blond due to the sun lightening it but hopefully it was enough of a difference for her not to recognise me.

The lesson went by quite well and all I really did was hand out sheets of paper and clean the blackboard. There wasn't really anything else for me to do other than sit there and add in a few details that Alaric missed out.

At the end of the lesson as the students filed out of the room Alaric spoke to me.

"Could you please go grab me a cup of coffee whilst I talk to a couple of students?" He smiled sweetly handing me a mug.

"Sure, how do you like it?" I questioned.

"Milk and no sugar."

I nodded leaving the classroom and making my way to the staffroom to make him the cup of coffee before making my way back to his classroom to see Alaric still talking to five students.

As I stepped into the classroom placing the mug onto the desk the door was slammed shut and locked by a sixth student I hadn't seen.

"What the hell?" I questioned turning towards the door and then back around to the crowd.

"Are you okay Melody?" the brunette girl questioned placing her hand on my upper arm.

I could feel the small plant against my bare skin burning it. Pulling away quickly there was clearly a burn on my arm that quickly healed.

"She's a vampire," the blond boy stated.

"Yeah but the Mikaelson's have one sister not two. So who is she, and is she as bad as Klaus?" The blond girl asked.

"You know I'm right here. And do you mean Niklaus is here? Are the others here too?" I questioned.

Obviously I knew Rebekah was here, but if Elijah was here and he found me he'd end up killing Niklaus and I don't know what I'd tell him about running away 1000 years ago.

"They're here, so who are you to them. Sister? Cousin? Daughter?" The boy with light brown hair asked.

"None of the above. I married into the family."
