So going by the title nothing good is happening.
This story is being discontinued after this chapter. And if you don't want explanations and want to be mad at me, that's fair and I'm sorry if I let you down and thank you for supporting me this far and I hope you have a great day. It's school. That's the main problem really. I need time for school and I realized as I became more focused on school this story and Iris just kept getting father and farther away from me to the point where I would pick it up to write, get a word in and then close the app to go do something that would make me happy.
I started to see this not as a passion project but as something I owed people, and while I love the support people have given me it won't ever be enough to overpower the hatred that was slowly starting to build up for working on this.I mean there is more problems like not being mentally well some days but the main problem was school and the time needed to make this story work.
To be honest I don't know what I was thinking half the time. Iris needed time to shine to make her feel important but I could never make it work, I could never get across how she was meant to be an image of perfection that was slowly starting to break.Which brings me to something else, Iris herself was a problem writing wise. Her concept was one that I enjoyed working with because really the soul of Voltron to a point is the relationships they all have with each other. But I could never seem to make some work. Her and Hunk always felt strained and distant, her and Pidge who are supposed to be really close were awkward at times to write together, Lance and Keith were always just there to bring an actual sense of 'Iris you need to focus' to the story. The only relationship that worked at some points was her and Shiro and even then I was way in over my head. The whole they don't remember anything to suddenly kissing at season two isn't well thought out.
Iris also just became what I needed her to be in the moment and I could never get across what I meant. Her whole eventual ark was that she like Shiro died and came back, but early on. During Kerberos. Haggar gave her some of her soul allowing her to do the crazy things (glowing white with a sudden strength to her) but I could never find the time to work it into the story without just going "lord dump". She had died protecting her sister which is why she feels such a strong sense of protection not just over Janice but her teammates (essentially she's died and is determined to not have anyone else end up like her.)
Janice was a problem in her own sense which was never finding a good spot to put her in. I needed an excuse early on to have Iris have access to information about other worlds so bam, Janice with a memory stick on everything. She was supposed to appear in a couple other chapters but to be honest it was just hard to find where. Iris's solo (the first one) was meant to have Janice in it but ended up being scraped for Iris finding out her brother is dead.
Honestly any character I made up had a problem, Iris suffered with not getting enough time to be properly fleshed out with how Voltron is styled and both her sister and brother never got a main focus leaving them in the dust for the point when they could be of use.So I'm sorry, really I am. I never wanted it to end this way and I would of loved to actually wrote this how I envisioned it, but to be honest I never could. And I think it's time I step back and admit I was way in over my head.
I'll leave the general plot points and some written stuff down below and if you don't want to read that, it's okay.
So this is the last you hear from me on this story, thank you. Thank you my guys, gals, and non-binary pals.Plot
- the next chapter would of had an argument. Coran essential gangs up on Iris over Janice working for the empire and deems her a danger to them and Iris determined to prove herself paladin material leaves to a supposedly abandoned planet to do hard training.
Her she gets a second pet, Ash, a cosmic fox that teleports.
And she also gets captured by galra soldiers when she's at a disadvantage (the plot point I have written just says twisty ankle and now I'm caught damn)
- Haggar tortured her relentlessly, basically Iris having the crazy dreams weren't her going crazy. With Haggar as a part of her she's had slight control over her thoughts leading to her actions causing corans unease that made her leave in the first place (we really are our own worst enemy).
- Iris wanting to be free from that makes a deal. Haggar takes her soul back from Iris, letting her be free, in exchange for her drawing her quintessence. Haggar happily complies and she starts drawing it leaving Iris frail while she's trying to think of a way to escape.
-she does and escapes in an escape pod crashing on a planet where her sister (dun dun Duh....) finds her and sends a notice to the paladins that she's found Iris and they need to come quick.
-this whole time they have been looking for Iris after she was captured and they have slowly been panicking and losing calm
- they get Iris, heal her up which takes about two weeks. Iris wakes up to Keith off with the blades, her fiancé acting different and occasional periods of blacking out. (Listen having your soul and quintessence taken away can do a lot to a body, or at least I think it does)-blah blah blah, clone Shiro, real Shiro comes back, the two are happily reunited
-Iris gets to see her family on earth again and she's finally happy
-big last battle where plot twist, Allura wouldn't of died (they sacrifice Iris's mom, who was going to play a big role by that point. It's a bit symbolic with Haggar causing her so much pain that she's the reason her moms dead, but also Iris learning to let go and finally understand that her family is not those by birth but those she surrounds herself with. Fair triad probably not but that's what my notes were aiming for so idk)
- happy ever after Shiro and Iris would of gotten married, and two kids Adelaide (named after her mom) and Matt (named after Matt holt because best friend duo being chaotic was something I wish could of happened)
